"We cannot have our child live like this!"
"What do think we should do Ericka?"
"I-I don't know Matt" came her dejected reply.
"We should ask Mary and John to take her in. They already have a son her age. Plus they did say that when the time came they would be willing to help in any way they can."
"I know, I know. I just don't want to make them feel obligated to take Rae in. It just doesn't feel right."
"I'm sure everything will be okay."
"I sure hope so. Let's go see them."
At Mary and John's trailer:
Ericka and Matt knock on the door and two seconds later Mary answers. "Oh, hello. What can I help you with?"
Both Ericka and Matt look at each other before Matt says "It's time."
Without any hesitation Mary says "Please come in."
Just as Ericka, who is holding Rae in her arms, and Matt come inside, John, who is holding Dick, says "What seems to be the problem?"
Matt was the first to speak up, "It's time for us to leave again and we wanted to know if you would be willing to keep Rae."
"For how long?" Mary asked. She had no trouble with watching the child. Rae and her own son, Richard, already spent most of their time together.
With little hesitation Ericka replied "Permanently," while looking over at Matt she continued, "we put alot of thought into this and we don't want this type of life for Rae. She deserves a better life than the one we can give her." While she was still holding Rae, she started crying, so Matt continued for her.
"We know it's alot to ask but we want to be able to leave her with someone we can trust. So if you are willing, we want you to be Rae's guardians." Mary and John both knew that they couldn't say no to their friends. So with a brief glance between each other they knew what the other was thinking.
"Of course we will become Rae's guardians. If this is really what you want that is." replied John while looking down at Dick who was sleeping in his arms. "I just have one question. Where are you two going to go?"
Ericka, who finally stopped crying, answered. "As far off the grid that we can. I just hope that this time no one finds us."
Both John and Mary knew understood what she meant. For the last five years Ericka and Matt have been moving around the world hiding from the police. They were hiding because they were wrongly accused of robbing seven banks and four jewelry stores. They didn't of course but someone put alot of effort into making all the evidence point to them.
Matt and Ericka were right about to leave when Mary asked "When are you two leaving?"
After looking back at each other and them at the baby in Ericka's arms they both replied "tonight."
John said "Don't worry we will take care of her. We will tell her all the good and wonderful things about you both."
They both knew they didn't need to say thanks but they said it anyways. But of course Mary knew just what to say. "We will make sure to get her right away in the morning. Oh, and we still have the key so you can lock the door."
After they finished off their good-byes they left to go back to their own trailer.
As soon as they got back to their trailer they put Rae into her crib. They also made sure to leave her plenty of pictures and two notes. One of them was to the Grayson's and the other was for Rae to read when she got older. Before they left they kissed Rae one last time. Only the Grayson's knew that the next day little Rae would be all alone when she woke up.
Well this is my first story so tell me what you think. Any suggests are most appreciated! Also thanks for reading!
