Hi! I just read Graceling, and I completely loved it! Kristin Cashore rocks! Anyway, this is a one-shot of Po's feelings when he wakes up to find that he's blind. It's a bit short, but I hope you like it!

Beauty.

It danced before Po's eyes and floated in the air like clouds drifting through the sky. Each blade of grass and each drop of water buzzed with the loveliness that only life contained. It glowed with the rising sun each morning, and was renewed in the starlit night as the moon hung in the sky. Beauty sparkled in the eyes of each person who roamed the Seven Kingdoms. But only one pair of eyes enchanted Po.

Katsa's.

She was so beautiful, with one eye an emerald green, and the other blue like the clear sky. Po loved the way her hair blew in the wind, and fanned out around her in a halo.

He was enchanted by the beauty of her grace, and was deeply humbled when she pinned him down in combat. And as she pressed Po's face into the dirt, she would laugh, and her voice would be like music to Po's ears.

And when she smiled, her face glowed golden, as if radiating sunshine, and her eyes glittered like diamonds.

But that was all gone now.

When Po woke in the cave and his eyes opened to darkness, he began to burn with rage. Fueled by his anger, Po punched a nearby wall, and then screamed when his fingers crunched against the rock. Cursing, he cradled his hand to his chest and prodded his fingers, wincing when his flesh burned with pain.

Po closed his sightless eyes and let the sight of his Grace flow over him. He was overwhelmed. His mental sight was so vivid, and allowed him to see so much that his mind swirled in a mash of colors. A bird captured his attention, and through his Grace he could see the curve of its wing, and each individual feather ruffled by the wind. But when Po pulled his sight back to get a broader view of the mountain, each pebble, each blade of grass, and each individual object attacked him in a flurry. Po quickly pulled back his sight, and buried his head in his hands.

He would never be able to look into Katsa's eyes, or watch as sunlight was caught in her hair.

The sun would rise each morning, breaking through the horizon, then soon after, the moon would capture the day in night. The dark sky would bathe in the silver glow of the moon, and stars would twinkle like diamonds.

But it all will be unseen by Po.

The trees would change, their leaves turning from green into scarlet and gold as the sky exploded in the autumn sun.

But Po wouldn't know.

And he would despair as days passed, and his eyes still met darkness, because he had lost the one thing that meant the most to him.

Beauty.

Really hoped you liked it! Please review, and if you'd like, give some constructive criticism! I'd like to improve my writing in any way I can. Thanks!

Love,
