That's how long it's been since she and her friends, along with a few allies, defeated Naraku. The evil hanyou who slain many to thirst his quench for blood and grabbed at any wandering Shikon shard to get stronger.

Since, she got stuck in the past. She was told it was because she still had one more duty to do in the feudal era, but she couldn't think of anything. She started traveling alone ever since Kikyo and Inuyasha started a life together in a house Inuyasha himself made. Sango and Miroku also settled down with thoughts of marriage in plan, leaving her to a lonely life of travel, even she won't admit.
She was invited to stay in town with Sango and Miroku, but she didn't want to, in a way, invade anymore then she did into their personal lives. She was from the future anyway.
Kagome Higurashi now travels the lands as the last of the bloodline to see the future and now takes measures to help those in death situations.
Sometimes, just sometimes, she wishes that she wasn't the Shikon no Tama miko or a Yuugen(an awareness of the universe (the name for one who could see the future)).
Just Kagome Higurashi was what she wanted to be.
