Kathryn startled awake on the biobed.
"Sorry," Chakotay said, "I didn't mean to wake you. I was just checking on you, I thought the Doctor would've taken care of your leg by now."
She smiled and rubbed her eyes, "It's okay, I was having a pretty weird dream anyway. As for my leg, it looks worse than it really is, so I told him to take care of everyone else first."
"Why am I not surprised?"
"Oh, shut up."
He chuckled, "So what was that dream about?"
"Believe it or not, I was pregnant."
"What?" Chakotay asked, suddenly bugged eyed.
She rolled her eyes, "Let me rephrase that. Katrine was pregnant."
"Oh, that's a relief."
"Do you want to hear about the dream or not?"
He drew his fingers across his lips as though he were zipping them.
"In the dream, Katrine and Captain Miller had met a few years prior. One thing led to another and then of course, he had to go back to America."
"So we basically had a kid?"
"Uh, no, Katrine and Captain Miller did."
"I get the feeling that's not all that happened."
"The neural interface may have, um, malfunctioned."
Chakotay raised an eyebrow, "And?"
She mumbled her answer.
"Sorry, Kathryn, you'll have say that again."
She huffed, "The neural interface malfunctioned and I had to give "birth" as myself rather than as Katrine."
"Yep, that's a weird dream alright. But now I'm glad "Brigitte" didn't go into labor while we were still on the holodeck."
"That certainly would've complicated things for you guys. All I did was get shot in the leg, blow up sickbay, and run from a homicidal Hirogen dressed as a Nazi. Completely normal day here in the Delta Quadrant."
Chakotay snickered, "I am curious. What did Katrine name the little tyke?"
Kathryn looked at him, "Really? That's what you want to know?"
"Hey, if that dream is any indication, I'd say you want little tan babies sometime in the future. We'd better get a name list started."
She smacked his arm, "You're lucky there's no one around to have heard that. I would've busted you down to Crewman."
"No, you wouldn't. You love me too much. So?"
She shook her head and sighed, "Jacinthe Arabella, that's what she named her."
"It's very pretty. I like it."
"Me too, actually, and she was really cute. But by the time Katrine and Captain Miller met up again, the hologram had been switched out with Naomi. I'm not entirely sure what happened after that. I think Seven and I took her to a bomb shelter. That's pretty much when I woke up."
"Well," Chakotay said, "definitely a weird dream. Quite telling, though."
She glared at him, "Unless you really do want to get busted down to Crewman, stop it."
"Okay, okay, I'm just glad you're okay."
"She'll be better once I fix that leg," the Doctor commented as he entered the room, "if you don't mind, Commander."
"Okay, I'm leaving," he leaned over and kissed Kathryn on the cheek, "I'll see you for dinner."
"Just be sure to bring the Antarian Cider."
