Jiraiya remembers the first time he saw Naruto.
It the day after the nine-tails attack. He was back in the village because he knew Minato's son was due yesterday, but nobody was expecting the other surprise that happened. He was already sulking and grieving over his student's death, so he didn't know why he thought seeing his son would make him feel any better. But nevertheless, he made his way down to the Hokage Tower where he knew Naruto would be with the newly-re-elected Hokage.
Before Jiraiya could even knock on the door, he heard Hiruzen say, "Come in, Jiraiya," like he was reading his mind and knew he was coming. As soon as Jiraiya walked in the door, he could see his sensei's face had a look of pity on it.
"Naruto is over there," Hiruzen said as he pointed to the crib in the corner of his office. Really, could his sensei read his mind?
He knew it was wrong, but as Jiraiya made his way over to the crib, he really hoped the baby looked more like Kushina. He didn't know if he could take it if he saw someone that looked just like Minato. As he peered over to look at the infant, he felt his heart drop. It seemed Lady Luck was not on his side anymore.
The kid looked just like Minato.
The spiky, blonde hair. The big, curlean blue eyes. Really the only difference was the whisker marks. Jiraiya quickly turned away as he felt tears prickle his eye lids. He heard the Hokage speaking to him.
"Jiraiya, I know you want to take Naruto with you, but he's the Jinchuriki. He can't-"
"It's fine," Jiraiya stopped him.
"Are you leaving again?"
"Yeah. I need a break. A really long break." Jiraiya sighed at the last part.
Jiraiya wouldn't see Naruto for another twelve years.

Jiraiya remembers the second time he saw Naruto.
He just got back to Konoha after his long break, and was spying on the women's bath house doing his research. Some idiot jonin tried to attack him to get him to stop. Of course, he got pummeled to the ground. He was turning back to his research when he heard a voice yelling at him.
"Hey! You just knocked out my teacher! Now how an I supposed to train for the chunin exams?!"
Jiraiya turned around ready to kcock out this idiot, too, when his heart stopped.
It was Naruto.
When he first saw the spiky, blonde hair and blue eyes, he thought he was seeing ghosts. But the whisker marks, and the brash personality (Guess the kid did take something after Kushina) proved him otherwise.
And it made him angry.
Angry that when he thought he was finally over his student's death, this stupid kid Minato-look-alike had to come along and prove him otherwise.
"Not my problem, kid." Jiraiya finally said after gaining his composure.
"Well it is your problem! Now I won't be strong enough to beat my opponent!"
"I don't think you know who you're taking to, kid! I'm Jiraiya! The legendary Sannin! A sage!" Jiraiya responded as he did his trademark pose.
"Sage?! You're just a perv!"
Jiraiya watched in sadness as all the girls in the bath house screamed and left.
"AWWWW! Look what you did! Now they're all gone." He groaned.
"Wait a minute. Did you say you were a Sannin? That means you can train me!"
Jiraiya scoffed. "No way in hell." 'I can't train him! He's just a reminder!'
But after an hour of whining and pleading. Naruto proved that he is so annoying that he can make Jiraiya forget who's child he is. And so he started training him.
And that's when Jiraiya's heart began to heal.
