This is just a small poem I wrote when thinking about Kaito's position. It must feel pretty bad knowing that you are just in second place of someone. Kurama has slightly better grades, is a lot stronger, popular, and is good-looking. I wondered how Kaito felt about all that and came up with this. Very slight angst is hinted, but it's there.

Second Place

Recognition is the bounty of glory.

To be known, seen, and heard requires the price of effort,

An effort that is empty and ignored by the souls of many.

Striving for perfection, to seek the talent that lies therein,

Attempting to reach the top and never able,

Always stuck behind and second to one.

Endeavoring to become smarter and stronger proves futile

When one constantly denies the option of victory.

Faced with frustration and spite, most crumble at the expense,

Yet the sin of envy can be strength to utilize.

To compel the mind and soul in order to improve;

That is what one will seek to earn a place in the focus

Even if it means to be defeated time and time again.

Second place is not considered to be a loser

But second place is also never considered to be a winner.

I hope this was alright. Leave a review or flame if you wish.
