Its been a long time for David and he's just coming to terms with his sexuality. The last thing he needed was the word FAG on his locker in front of all his new friends. He knew he could never forgive himself for treating Kurt the way he did so what he thought was best was to take his own life without destroying any one else's. David could not handle everything coming down on him. Thank god that his dad found him just in time.
