AUTHORS NOTE: Drabble for the September 8th drabble word 'Bait'. I was watching the episode 'Last Stand' today and it struck me that the scene were they're trying to figure how to get off the planet and Elliot offers to stay behind is perfect for that word.
Damn it! This sucks.
Elliot is a good officer. I gave him such a hard time at first because I saw so much potential in him, despite what I said to Carter.
It's not supposed to happen this way.
I'm supposed to be the bait.
It's my job.
Now he's going to die and there isn't a damn thing I can do about it. It's my fault. Mansfield was his commanding officer, but this was my mission.
He's going to die anyway. The Tok'ra can't help him, but that doesn't make this any easier.
There's no other way. It's this, or we all die.
I don't know how to tell him what I'm feeling. I nod and hope my face tells him what I can't say.
