Note: The song at the beginning is 'Annie's Song' as sung by Faryl. The song sets the tone for the fic, so listen if you can.
You fill up my senses, Come fill me again
Come let me love you, Let me give my life to you
Let me drown in your laughter, Let me die in your arms
Like a storm in the desert, Like a sleepy blue ocean
It was so strong, this urge to touch, to taste and feel that light spill onto his soul. Even the little sparkles and sunbeams he got, the laughter and mock battles and playful splashes of ocean water from impatient hands, calmed the twilight gray corners of his soul, drew out his own soft light and made him smirk and chase and dunk a laughing brunet's head under the water. That light was so strong, nearly as strong as Kairi's, but with just that little touch of shadow, enough to keep him from being blinded. He wanted more. More of everything.
At first, he thought it was just being reunited again. They were best friends, and it had been so long. But through all the little touches and gestures, the feeling had persisted, that want, that desire, even after returning home had lost its initial surge of emotion.
He had taken to looking anywhere but into clear ocean blue eyes, afraid and ashamed that perhaps the other would be able to see it in the eyes that didn't lie. Sometimes he even had to quickly push the boy off the tree or into the sand to keep him from seeing the emotion in his eyes. He wanted, he needed, and he couldn't let the other know.
Still, Sora must have picked something up. More and more, his shining light was directed at Riku. Kairi, Tidus, even Sora's mom noticed the sudden shine between the two. Riku just smiled. He didn't mind having a little more light shine on him. He needed it after as much darkness as he went through.
But when Sora took that first step and kissed him one afternoon on the island, Riku could feel as every cell in his brain froze. Sora just leaned back and watched his face, uncharacteristically still and silent. Riku's heart beat faster and faster in his chest, pushing heavy blood and shiny fleck of light garnered from Sora through his body. He stared for several long moments before a small smile lit across his face. Sora shone like the sun as he leaned in for another kiss.
As much as Riku pulled and took, gave and pushed, Sora just turned his ocean blue eyes his way and shone all the brighter. Riku wanted to drown in that ocean, full of nothing but light and sleep. And then Sora would do something that caused Riku to chase after him, threats of ocean water and a crab down his shirt spilling from his lips.
It wasn't perfect. There were days where Riku was afraid to soil Sora's light, nights were the brunet couldn't take the still there distance between their skin and could do nothing but try to consume Riku's desperate breath. More then once they fought, harsh words and keyblades, but when they returned, soft kisses and half lidded blue eyes, Riku could feel that light - that shadowed candlelight - spilling into his heart and there was nothing more he wanted. Nothing but the sleepy blue ocean contently staring back at him from the face of the one he loved.
