Taylor's POV
I met you one day when I was getting lunch at a small café. You were waiting tables part – time and in college, I was just a small – town girl waiting for my life to start. You told me I was beautiful and I laughed it off because I didn't believe you; you asked me to dinner and I agreed because I thought maybe it was my ticket out of that place. Three years later and we were taking on the world together; I wanted it to be perfect. That was the year we decided to move in together and you found a picture of my parents in a box of my things; you asked me why it made me cry to see it and I told you that it didn't matter. You pulled me close and you promised we'd never make their mistakes – but we had bills to pay and we had nothing figured out, so how could you promise that? I wanted to just rewind and go back to when we were young and didn't have a care in the world. You asked me to marry you and I said yes, we celebrated and we were happy. Then one day you came home and it was late, I was waiting up because I was afraid. I asked you where you'd been, and then we were shouting; I ran out with tears on my face and you followed me. I braced myself for you to say goodbye because that's all I had ever known, but you surprised me and said you'd never leave me alone. You told me you remembered how we felt way back then when we were sitting by the ocean; you made me into a rebel and I never wanted it to change. You said that I was the best thing that's ever been yours, and I want you to know you're the best thing that's ever been mine.
