She wore gleaming black armor on her chest and shoulders. A heavy helm protected her head and neck. The armor weighed strangely on her, but she moved with liquid grace as she fought. Her long, curved broadsword had an odd balance to it, but she wielded it easily against… Souma?
She watched in horror as the dark-skinned woman was flung backwards from her strike.
Souma! She cried out in her mind. No! No, Souma! But she couldn't speak.
She approached the ninja, who lay bruised and bloody on broken stone. The other woman's eyes focused on her as she came near. "My… lady…"
She lowered herself down, leaning over her lover's battered body. Her tears fell freely onto Souma's face.
"At least… let me be the one to see you off this plane," she murmured. Her voice broke.
Souma closed her eyes.
She reached for her sword.
No! No, no, no! She screamed inside. I can't do this! This is wrong!
But she couldn't stop her hands from lifting Souma up and thrusting her blade through her chest. The skimpy black outfit the ninja wore tore open, unable to maintain modesty when pierced by the weapon.
Amaterasu opened her eyes.
Seeing Souma's face just inches from her own, she gasped and sat up.
She was in her room at Shirasaki Castle. Souma wasn't dead, just asleep. And not even that anymore.
The ninja stirred, disturbed by her bedmate's movement. "My… lady?" she asked muzzily. She reached up and brushed a tear from Amaterasu's eye. "Did you have a bad dream?"
Amaterasu sighed. "Yes," she said, lying back down and putting her arms around the other woman. "A very bad dream. I dreamed i killed you, Souma." She buried her face in her lover's shoulder.
Souma held the empress close. "Don't worry," she murmured. "I won't die. I'm strong."
Amaterasu closed her eyes. "Yes," she replied softly. "You're strong…"
She drifted off to sleep, glad that Souma fought for her and no one else.
