I know that I haven't been on this account in almost 2 years...lol. but now I just upload when it feels right. This little ficlet is something I did in an hour and I may have plans to add more but for right now it's as complete as it's gonna get. Hope you like it!
I could feel the burning beginning behind my eyelids as I gazed at the massacred corpse of my Speaker, Lucien Lachance. There was a chill in the air of that abandoned house, something that only I could feel. And as I stood there, the words that Blade, Baurus, had said to me the day the Emperor was killed, repeated through my head. "We've failed, I've failed." Now, they seemed fitting to the situation at hand.
"The traitor has been dealt with! We shall now prepare the ancient ritual to speak to our Unholy Matron to determine a new Listener." The High Elf paraded herself around the home, making sure to run her gloved hand down the gashes in Lucien's arms. I felt empty. There was no point in defending him now; the deed was done. The family I had created in this life no longer existed. This room was full of strangers. The traitor had done his job.
There were no coherent thoughts running through my head as Arquen then turned and handed me a set of Black Hand robes. Probably Lucien's.
"Take these robes and prepare yourself for the journey to Bravil. We will set out when you are ready." After this, the group of remaining assassins left the abandoned home. I refused to acknowledge any of them; I knew one of them was still the traitor. Instead, my eyes stayed glued to the blood that grew dark under the mangled body of my Speaker.
MY Speaker.
I failed him.
My feet, the ones that had run across fields and mountains to reach this house, finally gave out as I slumped to the floor in front of my Speaker. I didn't say anything, I couldn't. In the end, Lucien had paid for my mistakes. I had failed him, and my family. And now, here I was, stuck with the rest of the dwindling group of assassins and one traitor. And the only other person who knew the truth was hanging by his toes from the ceiling. It was up to me to protect the Night Mother. Lucien would have wanted me to finish our mission, to root out the traitor that dare attack the Brotherhood; and even though I knew that, I couldn't find it in myself to care.
It seemed that the life I had built for myself in this world continued to fall apart. First, the Sanctuary; the people that had given me a home and a family; dead, for NOTHING. Now, the man that gave me it all in the first place, the man that believed in me, that had trusted me, is dead, for NOTHING.
The time for tears was long past. Now, I released myself over to the chilled, silent rage I knew bubbled within me.
This traitor would be killed!
He would be maimed!
He would be stripped of everything he has!
He would BEG for his death. To join his precious MOTHER!
I was Lucien's Silencer, and I would silence this traitor. My eyes landed on the black robes to my right, and to the Blade of Woe on my left hip.
This. Wasn't. Over.
Thanks guys. I hope you enjoyed it.
