Coffee
Warning: BartXBilly shounen ai.
Disclaimer: They aren't mine.
Coffee made Billy talkative. It was as if the caffeine sent a jolt to his vocal chords, causing words to scramble up his throat and pool at a dip in his tongue only to have the syllables trip over one another as he spoke, resulting in an incoherent string of sentences. He was content to pose questions with no answers, to state the obvious as if it were some life altering revelation and continue talking, not pausing for a comment. It might've seemed selfish, but he wasn't speaking to prevent someone else from talking, he was only attempting to suspend words in the coffee-scented silence.
Bart, however, found that the rich drink, which he hesitated to call bitter or sour since the words were often taken as negative and he greatly enjoyed the drink made him pensive. It didn't blur the line between reality and imagination, it allowed him to straddle the line so that the two were easily distinguishable but he could chose to dwell in either. Bart never spoke as he drank coffee because even though he could clearly see the boundary of what was in his mind and what resided in the physical world he might confuse the two and forget that it was inappropriate to say, "I want to touch you, Billy."
So Billy chattered and Bart just smiled.
