Ruined feasts and Interrogations

Norfirion stood by Lord Thranduil's side and glared into Thorin Oakenshield's eyes. As Thorin's eyes met his grey pools of hatred, Norfirion recollected on only an hour ago and what caused him to be so full of anger. Norfirion, commander of the Elvish Guard and bodyguard to Thranduil had stood guard at his Lord's side at the elvish feast where elves had sat eating, drinking, and merry-making. All of the sudden Thorin had leapt out and and had caused mass chaos. Everyone scrambled to clean up the feast, putting fires out before running away to the palace. Norfirion had leapt at Thorin, who had fallen asleep the moment he set foot in the light. Norfirion went for his elvish lhangs a fire alight in his grey eyes and a hatred clouding his vision ready to strike him down where he lay. But Thranduil stopped him. "Norfirion no!" he yelled grabbing his arm "He may prove yet useful" They had dragged Thorin back to the caves for questioning. While Norfirion had been in the recollection the questioning had already started. Norfirion realized this and came back to reality.

"Why did you and your folk three times try to attack my people at their merry making?" asked Thranduil his voice as smooth as cream yet a note of hostility in his voice.

"We did not attack them" answered Thorin wearily but still alert "We came to beg because we were starving"

"Where are your friends now, and what are they doing?" Thranduil continued sounding like an investigator on a case

"I dont know, but I expect starving in the forest" Thorin answered a hint of sarcasm in his voice. At this Norfirion's hand strayed to his sword hilt.

"How dare you answer Lord Thranduil like that!" he snarled his eyes alight with anger. Thorin jumped back a step as Norfirion drew his sword. "He could have killed your sorry self but he kept you alive." He went to run Thorin through when Thranduil stopped him.

"As much as I dislike dwarves do not kill him. We do not kill things without need, except the spiders of Mirkwood, Norfirion" Norfirion sheathed his sword and stood at ease again.

"Yes my Lord" he said "Sorry Lord"

Thranduil continued the grueling interrogation.

"What were you doing in the forest?" asked Thranduil in an accusing voice

"Looking for food and drink, because we were starving" Thorin answered.

"But what brought you into the forest at all?" Thranduil yelled angrily

Thorin just sat there silently and refused to answer, all the while looking at Thranduil resolutely

"Very well!" Thranduil said "take him away and keep him safe, until he feels inclined to tell the truth, even if he waits a hundred years."

Several elves came forward and bound him. They took him to his cell and gave him food.

Norfirion took the silence that followed as a chance to ask what had been thrashing about in his mind.

"My Lord" he started "Wouldn't it have been easier to just kill the treacherous beast? I mean dwarves are crafty and it wouldn't do for him to escape and reclaim the jewels and treasure he stole from us." Thranduil stood an angry look on his normally merry face.

"You dare question my judgement!" he yelled but he caught himself "Yes it would be easier Norfirion to kill him but who would kill the dragon that stands between me and the jewels?"

"Sorry my Lord" Norfirion bowed

Nothing much happened the rest of the day and as Norfirion retired that night he thougt of all that had happened. He slowly drifted off into a dreamless sleep.
