"James!" Sirius yelled running up the stairs to the 7th Year boy's dormitory. "I'm so sorry! I would have come sooner if I had known, Emily only just told me. Do you want to cry on my shoulder? I'll sacrifice my manliness for you in your time of need!"
"What's wrong? What did Emily tell you?" James looked suspiciously at the door, wondering where his cousin was and what she had told Sirius.
"James, you don't need to be strong for me, I know Lily just died in the Hospital Wing."
James looked at Sirius, confusion etched on his face, "What do you mean she died? She just slipped and sprained her ankle, she'll be back in a few minutes."
"What? Emily said she had some rare immediately fatal disease and she had just died in the Hospital Wing…" he trailed off. "EMILY!"
Emily Potter was at the door seconds later. "Yes?" she asked smiling.
"You told me she died! Lily sprains her ankle and you tell me she dies! I came up here expecting James to be falling apart!" Sirius yelled at Emily.
"You of all people Black should recognize a joke when you hear it." Emily said rolling her eyes.
"Did I miss something?" Lily asked, coming through the door.
"Lily!" Sirius screeched hugging her, "I thought I'd never see you again!"
"I was only gone a few minutes, did you really miss me that much?" she asked him, trying to pry free from his firm grip and suspiciously eyeing James and Emily.
Emily was standing with her arms crossed and gazing dreamily out a nearby window. When she spoke her voice dragged with boredom, and she seemed more focused on keeping her side-bangs out of her eyes than concerned about the issue at hand. "I told Sirius here, that you had caught a rare fatal disease and had died in the Hospital Wing." She said as if this were nothing new.
Lily stopped trying to pry off Sirius and seemed to be in a state of shock, when all of a sudden she burst out laughing.
"Merlin, Emily!" More hysterical laughing, then, "It was just the way you said that, that made it so funny!" And Lily Evans, the Prefect, the perfect student, was to be seen rolling around the floor, clutching her stomach, and laughing her guts out.
Sirius, James and Emily were all staring at Lily, clearly wondering what bizarre unforeseen events could have lead up to this.
"What medication did Madam Pomfrey put her on again?" James asked.
Emily and Sirius shook their heads.
"Well, whatever it was, it seems to have triggered an emotion that she's clearly had bottled up for a really long time."
James and Emily looked at Sirius.
"What?" he asked. "Obviously the potion she was given, whatever it was, must have released-"
"Just stop talking." Emily supplied.
Sirius shrugged. "I'm smart when I want to be."
Emily glanced at James. He too shrugged and said, "He has got a point you know."
They all turned their attention back to Lily who was still giggling uncontrollably on the floor.
James went over to the door and opened it motioning to the others. "Shall we?"
Sirius nodded his head in agreement and headed towards the open door. Emily, on the other hand, seemed more hesitant to leave her friend.
"She'll probably still be here in the same position when we come back to check on her," James assured her.
Emily nodded her head, "Right," and she followed Sirius out the door.
James glanced back at Lily one more time before he shut the door. She seemed to be frozen in a fit of laughter and not aware of her surroundings. This was the one moment that would embarrass Lily for the rest of her perfect life. And what was even better, she would probably have no recollection of the event what so ever, and James was almost positive that Sirius would make it out to be much worse than it actually was. With a little help from himself and Emily, this moment would go down in history as the one drunk moment of Lily Evans's life.
