The potions master was nearly knocked over as the young man practically flew into his arms, trembling violently as he gripped the front of Severus' robes.

"Harry, what is it? What's wrong?"

"I-I just... will you..."

Snape tilted the the boy's chin up but he wouldn't meet his eyes.

"Harry?"

The glittering emeralds finally met his gaze.

"I-I'm scared. I'm scared of facing him, I'm scared of failing. There's so much at stake!"

Severus pulled Harry against his chest and held him close, gently carding his fingers through the boy's unruly hair.

"Shhh, it's alright. It's okay to be afraid. I'm just as scared as you, you know. I'm terrified of losing you. You aren't alone in this, I will be by your side to the very end, no matter the outcome."

"Kiss me? Please?"

Severus smiled and slowly pressed his lips against Harry's, kissing the boy without any rush, his tongue lightly caressing the boys'.

Harry moaned and drew closer to the gentle comfort, near silent strength, and the unbreakable loyalty of his lover, needing the man's assurances so desperately there weren't words enough to describe it. Severus was the one person he would have believed if he said that everything would be fine.

They kissed for some time, each moment filled with strength and unfailing comfort. When it finally ended Severus kissed the boy's forehead and drew him tighter into his arms.

"Promise me, that whatever happens, you will do whatever it takes to stay alive. Don't go rushing off into danger unthinking and praying for your luck to save you, not this time..."

"I promise. And even if I tried, I'm sure you would stop me."

"I will. I love you Harry."

"I love you too. And thank you, for staying by me, it...it really means a lot."

"There's nowhere else I'd ever be and you know it. Now, let's get some rest, you will need your strength tomorrow."

As he let Severus lead them to their bed, he touched the potion master's arm, who looked to Harry curiously as they sat down on it.

"You didn't lie and tell me that everything would work out and we would win... Thank you for that..."

"The future is uncertain, but I believe that we can win. I believe in you, and everyone who has joined us. But I am a realist Harry. War is a nasty business with no true winner. There will be injuries and losses on both sides, some more devastating than others, but the victor is not determined by the number of casualties, but by the one who refuses to give up. Tomorrow may very well be the last day of this war, or it might be the turning point that leads us to the end. But it is definitely going to be one of the most important battles we've ever fought, and false promises are not going to help anyone win it. Now sleep, the dawn will come soon enough for everyone, no need to urge it to hurry."

As Harry curled against his husbands' chest, he fingered the wedding band glowing silver on his hand in the dim light of the tent. He wasn't alone, he knew that. The 5,000 tents surrounding his, filled with over 10,000 witches and wizards ready and willing to fight Voldemort at a moment's notice were proof enough of that. But the fact Severus would be beside him was what made him truly feel that he was not alone. Tomorrow he'd stand on the front lines beside Neville and Luna, Ron, Hermione, and all the others who had joined him to defeat the threatening darkness. But with Severus beside him, he thought they might actually win.
