England laid out some of his books from the bookshelf onto the coffee table. Today he will be teaching New Zealand a very important lesson: Magic.
Who says a seven year old cannot handle the responsibility of learning a few helpful spells? Not him obviously. Besides, they will only tackle levitation for now.
The little island nation watched with mild interest as his "mummy" draped a green cloak around himself before pulling out a wand with a star at its tip. New Zealand was given his own wand; which strangely looks like a normal stick painted black. England then opened one of his special magic books and carefully flipped through until he found the specific chapter.
"Alright New Zealand, I need you to focus now." said England as he demonstrated the proper way of waving a wand. "Wave your wand with grace and poise, slowly drawing circles around the air. Do NOT wave it like you are trying to hit someone with a bloody stick."
The young nation followed his actions, waving his wand to and fro. He was doing a good job other than England being all finicky about how he held it or his lack of grace. Eventually he was satisfied and they were on to casting the spell.
"This is why I chose you amongst the rest, Kiwi." the Briton said. "I needed someone who can visualize and focus on one object at a time without getting distracted after ten seconds."
New Zealand knew what he meant. Australia was rowdy and cannot sit still. England cannot find Canada and eventually gave up on looking for him even if he was just sitting on the sofa. Sealand was hyper and noisy. Hong Kong had himself surrounded with fireworks and America was… no comment. New Zealand was quiet, attentive and actually listens to what he says most of the time.
England cleared this throat to catch the boy's attention, noticing him spacing out slightly. "Think of the object you would want to levitate. Any small thing would do and center your mind at it. Imagine how it would slowly rise a few inches from the ground and then back down without any noise. Concentrate. Then repeat after me: Pennafinna!"
New Zealand looked around and saw his sheep stuffed toy from afar. He centered his thoughts and vision on it alone, seeing it float towards him. With a wave of his wand, he drew out a shaky breath and pointed the tip at the toy as he let out a hesitant "P-pennafinna!"
The sheep toy shook a bit and toppled sideways before rising around an inch off the chair, floating slowly towards New Zealand. England was delighted when it settled on the younger nation's arms, a big grin spreading on his little face.
"Marvelous! And on your first time at that!" he praised, petting the child on the head endearingly. "Keep practicing lad and soon you can show off to your siblings! I should find something else for us to try."
New Zealand watched him as he disappeared into another room, leaving him alone. Hugging his sheep toy, he patiently sat down on the chair and waited. A soft green glow emanated from his hands but dissipated as quickly as it came.
"I wonder what we will do next…" he said softly.
The sheep toy turned its head up to look at its master, smiling. "I hope it would be harder this time."
Notes:
"Penna" is feather in Latin. It has numerous other alternatives meaning the same thing but it liked it more than the others. "Finna" is just a suffix I added to make it sound better lol xD
Inspired by two great authors that i follow in fanfiction where England's colonies can do magic because of his relations with them through the British Empire.
