Remember to review!

In the twelve years he was apprenticed, ObiWan learned many things from his master. They ranged from the innate to momentous. The most important lesson he learned however, was to smile. Laugh when you wanted to cry. Joke when the question surviving tomorrow is unclear. Grin when your insides are being torn apart. Beam when your whole existence has been betrayed.

While his life had not been hard per say- but it wasn't easy either. He was brought to the temple at a young age and had no family to speak of. He had always been mediocre at best in the majority of his classes and he couldn't remember a time he wasn't picked on.

No, life was not kind to him, but he managed.

It wasn't until he met Qui-gon Jinn on Bandomeer that things started to change. Up until then he was flailing about like a dieing bird, unable to fly, incapable of falling. He didn't have a path to follow as the one he knew (that of a Jedi) was deemed ill fitting; he was wandering blindly. Qui-gon gave him a choice, a chance. But never at his heart. He knew attachments were forbidden... yet that was all he ever wanted.

A place to belong.

A place Qui-gon denied.

Though unintentionally, Qui-gon taught him how to cope by denying him that place in his heart.

And so when ObiWan was discarded like yesterday's trash to the compactor he smiled. He smiled for the whole galaxy to see. He smiled for his no longer master and his new apprentice. He smiled for the council. He smiled for the Jedi. He smiled for The Force.

But mostly, he smiled for himself... because a smile is the best way to hide the pain.

And that's all he knew how to do.
