Chapter 1

Ugh.
That was all I could think when I woke up on Sunday morning.
Today was going to be a long day. Moving day. My older sister and I were moving to LaPush, Washington.
Don't get me wrong, I used to love LaPush. Every spring my sister and I would come down there and enjoy the beach with our dad. It's just that I've lived in another part of Washington my whole life and when my sister told me we were moving I actually got excited. When she said we I thought she meant me, my mom, and her. When she said moving I thought she meant that we were actually moving somewhere far away. Possibly somewhere sunny.
But no.
When she said we she meant she and I. When she said moving she meant we were moving down to good ol' LaPush with dad. Not a very sunny place. Now that dampened my excitement.
Plus, I didn't want to leave my mom behind. My mom and dad are divorced. But my mom just kept reassuring me that she was fine. She told me that she was already busy enough as a lawyer and that staying with my dad in LaPush would be a great experience.
"There are lots of cute boys living down there, sweetie," she said.
I just rolled my eyes.
I threw my bags in the back of my sister's car and got in the passenger's seat.
"Ready to go?" she asked me.
"Ready as I'll ever be."
She started the engine.
"Wait!" My mom came running out of the house.
"What, Mom?"
"I never got a hug from you, Hayley!" She opened the passenger door.
I stepped out of the car and was pulled into a tight hug.
"Aw, Hayley! I'm going to miss you," she wailed.
"I'll miss you too, mom," I assured her.
"Okay, sweetie, I'll let you two leave now."
"Thanks mom," I said, and immediately jumped back in the car the moment she let go of me.
"Bye Rebecca! Bye Hayley! I love you!" Mom called, backing toward the front door.
"Love you too, mom! Bye!" Becca called back.
Finally, the front door closed.
"Alright, Becca, floor it before she comes back asking me if I packed enough underwear." I said.
"Right."
Becca pulled out of the driveway and we were off.
Off to start our new life in LaPush.
