"I'm sorry! I'm sorry! I'm sorry!"

He was sobbing out the words as he repeatedly stabbed her. He still held her head close to his chest to stop the neighbours from hearing her scream even though she had gone silent a long time ago. He still plunged the knife in and out of her side a few more times before finally pulling it out and dropping it on the floor. He let go of her lifeless body and looked at his bloody hands.

"What did you do, Dean? What the fuck did you do?" He asked himself.

He tried hard to get his breathing under control. After a few minutes of just sitting there, breathing and looking at her body, he finally got back up and moved to the wall. He lifted his bloody hands and touched the wall.

The two cousins Laura and Randy Orton sighed as they looked at the dead woman. They were both cops and worked better together than most other cops because of their tight bond as cousins. When the dead woman hadn't turned up to an agreed morning coffee appointment, her friend had gone to her apartment. The door had been unlocked, and she had been found inside.

"Her name was Lana. She was a dance teacher," Laura said.
"What do you think? Ex boyfriend maybe?" Randy asked.

He looked at the words "I'm sorry" written in blood on the wall.

"He is sorry after all," he said.
"Angry too. He stabbed her 30 times," she sighed. "Angry and sorry. He's a dangerous combination. Let's hope it's an ex boyfriend."
"Why?" He asked.
"Because if it's not, we got a future serial killer on our hands. This was his first kill. It was very uncoordinated and uncalled for. He continued stabbing her long after she died. As if he couldn't stop once he started. And yet he's sorry," she pointed at the wall. "Which means he probably fought the urge for a long time. He couldn't fight it anymore last night."

He moved away from the bloody writing on the wall and took a look around the living room. He stopped in front of her book shelf and looked at the books.

"Astronomy," he said. "For a dance teacher she sure has a more serious hobby."
"Don't judge people by one thing alone. So she was smart and had an interest in stars and planets. No big deal," she said. "What matters is getting whoever did this to her."
"My money's still on an ex boyfriend," he said.
"We'll learn soon enough. There's enough fingerprints to look through. Maybe we'll get lucky that it's either an ex or someone already in the system," she said. "We better start talking to her family and friends."
