A/N: This needs a bit of explanation. The painting I described is my favorite painting ever. The thing is, it's not a real painting. I saw it in a dream. I guess it's personal to me because in my dream, it was painted by my little sister. When I thought back to it, I could only think about Italy and Germany. This idea popped into my head, and here I am. Soooooo here you go...
Ludwig and Feliciano lay in the grass outside Feli's house. It was the bubbly Italian's idea. He Ve~'d in contentment and saw Ludwig smile a bit out of the corner of his eye. He turned over to lie on his side. "Hey, Ludwig?"
"Ja?"
"What's your favorite memory?"
Ludwig looked a bit taken aback. "Um... Well, it might sound a bit... odd, but I have this dream a lot. It's the only dream I can remember after I wake up. In the dream, I sit with a little girl who has brown hair and wears a green dress, and we're painting, but I'm... not me. I'm someone different."
Feli just stared blankly into the sky. He looked sad.
"I knew it sounded stupid..."
"No, no, it's not stupid, Luddy! But I want to tell you my favorite memory. When I was little, I stayed with Mr. Austria. One day, one of the people I lived with there had to leave. But he promised to come back and be with me again..."
"Did he come back?"
"Si."
Ludwig contemplated Feliciano's words. He didn't understand what he was saying. Then again, he hardly ever understood anything the Italian said. He decided to just let it be.
Feliciano looked at the stars and was reminded of the scene he had painted while thinking of Holy Rome after the small empire had left. He stood quickly. "Wait here, please, Luddy. I have something I need to find. I'll be back." He ran into the house and to his bedroom. He opened the closet and pulled out a box from the back. As he dug through it, a few tears rolled down his face. Holy Rome was finally home.
He found his painting and carried it outside, a bit nervous about sharing this particular work; he had only showed Miss Elizaveta before now. He exited the house and walked back to where Ludwig was lying. Ludwig stood and looked curiously at the painting that was turned away from him.
Feliciano looked down at the painting and smiled sadly. It was then that Ludwig noticed that Feli's face was tear stained. Before he could ask, Feliciano began to speak. "I painted this a long time ago after my friend left. I wanted to show it to you because you mentioned painting in your memory." He turned it around to reveal a night sky painted in brilliant hues. The sky was every color of the rainbow, the stars every pastel you could think of. Ludwig gasped in awe. Feliciano continued. "I want you to have it. I always thought you painted my world in colors like this. I want to paint your world in the brightest colors imaginable. I want us to share a bright, colorful world together, our own painting. I need your colors to light up my world."
Now Ludwig and Feliciano were both crying. "Feli... You... I..." He choked up and smiled. "I need your colors, too. I love the painting. Let's hang it up in my room here at your place."
Feli smiled. "Si. That sounds great."
They sat back down on the grass, and Feli laid his head on Ludwig's shoulder. The breath caught in Feli's throat when a shooting star passed overhead. He closed his eyes, made a wish, and let himself let go of the past. And Feliciano fell in love again.
