Jack sighed heavily as yet another teary-eyed nurse fluffed his pillow.
They all give him the same sympathetic smile.
His team had broken the news to him when he'd awakened two days ago.
He was still in shock. She couldn't be gone. Not her.
The drugs coursing through his veins eased the physical pain of his wounds, but did nothing for the ache in his heart.
There would be no miraculous come back.
His beloved 'Napoleonic Power Mongering', 'huge honkin' needle loving' Doc was well and truly, irreversibly dead.
For the first time in over forty years, Jack O'Neill cried.
