Hot as a fever, rattling bones
I could just taste it, taste it
If it's not forever, if it's just tonight
Oh, it's still the greatest, the greatest, the greatest
- Kings of Leon, Sex On Fire

It's Just Tonight

With every nerve ending sparking, with every sense burning in white heat, Bella struggled to let go. To let go of thinking, let go of control and let go of him, Edward.

With every long caress of Jacob's tongue, Bella lost herself a little more until she was nothing more than an expression of fire.

She knew that there would be a time, all too soon, for regrets and self-loathing, but tonight all she craved was release. Losing herself in Jacob was the gift she craved for him – a pure and shining memory to hold onto.

But what she hadn't realised was that every heart beat, every drop of mingled sweat, every grasping touch, every shudder, would bind her to him more tightly than skin.

Jacob knew that this was to be her last goodbye, her final spark of humanity raging in this fire. As his heart cracked and broke in shards at the loss of her, she stumbled closer, closer with every heart beat, with every breath.

"Promise me something Bella. Promise me you'll never change..." he stopped short as he realised that she would be changing irrevocably, and soon.

"Promise me you'll always remember me," Jacob whispered, and he almost hung his head but for Bella clutching at his shorn hair.

"Make me yours Jake," she breathed, her voice dry and shaky with need.
"I can't live without the Sun."

Then with hearts blazing, Bella's fear of being fully human and vulnerable, of being truly alive, finally burned to ashes in Jacob's fire.
