I Missed You

A/N: This is a post-finale fic, with attention to the korrasami and makorra relationship dynamic after the ending. enjoy, my fellow makorrians!

...

Korra knew she had opened a pandora's box the night she kissed Mako in front of his brother.

In all honesty, there was more than one reason why Korra kissed Mako the night of their pro-bending match. It wasn't just because she knew she lacked the words to explain the tight feeling in her chest when the firebender spoke to her with such conviction. She was the Avatar. She should've known better than to be so reckless. But she wouldn't lie. There was more behind that kiss than the wash of relief her love wasn't unrequited. More than joy, or hope. She could've kissed him in any number of private places. Should've waited for a better moment. But that's not the truth, and she's not a liar.

She did it for the thrill.

She did it because he wasn't going to stop her. If he decided to turn back around instead of chase Bolin for another kiss, she would've let him. Would've given him anything. Girlfriend be damned. She liked the thought of going behind her back, at the time.

The Avatar's duty to bring balance to the world, to be the bridge, to show love, to make peace, leaves Korra with little room for error. She's never been a woman of little mistakes. Korra is reckless. Korra is hot-headed. She's fast, strong, demanding. She gives everyone so much, she deserves to be a bit selfish about this, she deserves to have what she wants for once. To be reckless again.

It was reckless of her to run off with Asami after ending Kuvira's plans and opening a new portal, and it was reckless what she was doing now. Reckless to announce that they were dating. Reckless to not properly punish Kuvira for her actions. But it didn't stop her.

He wasn't going to stop her.

'I'm not a cheater,' she thought selfishly but then immediately felt her forehead wrinkle in response as she hands dug into Mako's soft dark hair and grabbed a tight fistful.

"Korra!" Mako hissed but Korra ignored him and pulled his head back, kissing the exposed flesh of his Adam's apple. She appreciated the low hum in his throat. She kissed her way down his collarbone and then licked her way back up to his chin, giving him a slow kiss in apology. She half wanted him to fight her off, and he had yet to drop the limp pen in his hand.

'I'm not a cheater. I'd just like some attention.'

His lips were swollen. They were even more kissable, and in between those kisses she could hear his murmurings about being careful,

But how else could she say it?

"I missed you."

Please review if you enjoyed my teaser so far. This is like, I guess, my way of venting/accepting the ending. But I'm still so crazy about the show. Anyway, let me know what you think! We'll see how far I take it.
