My Rin

Sesshoumaru watched Rin slowly walk through the ruins of a small village. The scent of the humans' blood would be enough to make most demons go insane, but Sesshoumaru ignored it for Rin's sake. Rin slowly leaned against one of the burned houses. Everything she did today was slow, it seemed. Another scent entered Sesshoumaru's nose, Rin's tears. It was faint, but he could tell she was crying.
"Rin, why are you crying?"
"Rin is sad because they are dead."
"Humans die every day."
"But… but…"
Rin ran off, further into the burned village. Sesshoumaru didn't try to follow her, since he could sense if she got into danger. He could sense that InuYasha and his group were getting close, but not close enough to pose any threat to Rin. Once the sun began to set, he went to her location. Rin was sitting against a tree on the off skirts of town, holding a flower in her hand. She looked up, tears running down her face, "Sesshoumaru-sama, why did they have to die?"
"The wolves came back, and they were helpless to stop them."
"You saved me when the wolves killed me. Why can't you save them?"
"It was different. The bodies are not as whole as yours was."
"I don't get it."
"Even if I were to bring them back, they would have no body to return to."
Rin gazed back into the village.
"Besides," Sesshoumaru continued, "They don't deserve to live."
"Yes they do! Rin thinks that everyone should live!"
"Even after how badly they treated you?"
"Rin doesn't care. Rin is still fine."
"They let you die!"
"But Sesshoumaru-sama saved Rin!"
"What if I hadn't been there?"
"Sesshoumaru-sama is always there for Rin!"
Sesshoumaru sighed. There was no point talking sense into her. Sesshoumaru could smell tears again. Only, Rin wasn't crying anymore. He turned around to see the girl who hanged around InuYasha. He glared at her; how could she get past his defenses?
"S… Sesshoumar… maru…"
He continued to glare, "Do not stutter in front of this Sesshoumaru."
"Is this where Rin lived before she traveled with you?"
"That is none of your concern, human. But yes, this village is where she was born."
They sat in silence. Rin had wandered off a little ways away to pick flowers for the dead people. After a while, Kagome said, "She's amazing."
Sesshoumaru silently agreed.
"She really is something, though. Even though they hurt her so deeply, she still cares for them."
"She is innocent and naïve, nothing more," Sesshoumaru lied. He couldn't let the girl think he was going soft.
"No, I don't think so. She's probably more mature than she lets on. She has to be, living with you. No offence, but you kill a lot of people."
"This Sesshoumaru does not kill without a cause."
"But you kill, nonetheless."
Sesshoumaru looked away and walked toward Rin. Kagome headed the other way, back to InuYasha. Once the human was far enough away, Sesshoumaru said to no one, "Yes, she is something special. She is my Rin."
