The Legion of the Dead
They proclaimed him a Paragon, and lifted his exile. As Duran Aeducan walked through Orzammar's Hall of Heroes, he was cheered. Soon, a statue of him would be constructed.
Harrowmeont sat the Throne, thanks to Duran's recommendation. The Warden did not care for his father's friend, but he was hardly going to allow his cunt brother to rule the Dwarves. Logain perished killing the Archdemon, on Duran's command, and he was the one who received the credit. That old moron killed the dragon in a vain attempt to restore honour upon himself, but Duran ensured it would not be so. He claimed Logain attempted to flee, and Duran cut him down before finishing the Archdemon. All of the support he gathered were dead or dying by that stage anyhow, besides the Gollums. And the Paragon highly doubted the other Grey Wardens were prepared to reveal their secret that once a Warden slew an Archdemon, they died. So he was hailed as the man who single-handedly ended the Blight. His exile was ended, and he was welcomed back into his home.
The Throne was, by all rights, Duran's. He had been framed for murder, and he was the eldest son of Endrin Aeducan, the previous king. If his father had still lived and learned that Duran had no part in Trian's death, he would surely pass the crown to him. But, Endrin went and got himself killed, so only Harrowmont stood in his way. A frail, old man. Duran was a Grey Warden, and a fucking Paragon. In hindsight, it would have been easier appointing Bhelen as king based on grounds of blood, as it would be much easier to reclaim once the exile was lifted.
But that was neither here nor there. After the Blight, Duran set off to Amaranthine, and became the Warden-Commander, a further honour bestowed upon him. There, he killed some fat bitch and some talking Darkspawn. Duran did not care to remember much about them. They were long slain, after all.
And so, upon arriving back into his home, one would think the throne would have been given to him. But no. Harrowmont welcomed him, and people cheered. But when he politely asked for his rightful position as king, he was refused. And so Duran, now a hero among the Warrior Caste, rounded up a few soldiers and marched into the palace, overthrowing Harrowmont and his men. Nobody would dare oppose a Paragon, and so Duran's reign began.
He turned out to be not so popular among the Dwarves of Orzammar, however. Apparently, they found him too cruel. It was true that Duran used his position to… silence criticisms. The Assembly was dissolved, and the Warden ruled alone for an entire year. In that time he managed to kill Harrowmont, Bhelan, his lackey Vartag, near on half of the destroyed Assembly, and whatever common Dwarf was rumoured to plot to overthrow him. It was Dulin Forender who was his downfall. The Dwarf fled upon Duran's taking of the throne, and returned with an army. It was not difficult to rally the Noble houses, it would seem. Duran, and his second Leggio, were in the middle of a… party, with four common women when it happened. They marched into his room, and Leggio was killed. But Duran managed to take three on, completely naked with nothing but a sword and shield. Before yielding, the King managed to throw his sword, and it caught Dulin in the forehead, at the other end of the room.
The Assembly was reformed, and Duran's trial was held before them. The general consensus seemed to be execution. Duran, not quite happy with the idea, begged to join the Legion of the Dead. He had killed so many Darkspawn he lost count, was a brilliant warrior and had the taint in him, making him an excellent addition. The Assembly, with just over half the vote, agreed.
And so Duran entered the Deep Roads, with nothing but sword and shield.
