"Just do as Much as You Can and it will be Enough"
It was 3:30 in the afternoon. The sound of a big yellow school bus could be heard from the bus stop. Hermione opened the door for her nine-year-old, blond haired son. Jon trudged in, dropped his backpack on the couch, and sat down next to it with a sigh of frustration. Closing the door, Hermione went to her son and kneeled in front of the couch. "What's wrong?" she asked.
"On the bus ride home, I saw a homeless woman looking through the trash with a really young baby on her hip. I wanted to help her so badly, but I can't help everybody, especially since I can't use magic, yet! There are so many people in the world who are suffering. Today, in school, we had a guest speaker who told us how people in Africa suffer like this every day. They don't have money or food to support their little kids," Jon replied as if the weight of the world's troubles was resting upon his shoulders.
Hermione tried not to smile. The very same realization had occurred to her a few years ago. But a walk on the beach had changed it all. "Let me tell you a true story that happened to me," she said. When Jon nodded his approval, Hermione started.
One hot summer day, I was walking along the beach. I saw that there were many starfish lying on the sand among various pieces of tree barks. I figured that they had been washed up on the shore after the big thunderstorm we had had. It was true that I felt really bad for them but I didn't think I could help them all.
As I continued my walk, I came upon a boy, who looked a lot like you, throwing starfish back into the ocean. "DRACO MALFOY?!," I said, incredulously, to the boy.
"Yes?" the boy replied, looking up but not stopping his work; he pointedly ignored the fact that I had seemed so surprised, so I decided to ignore it as well.
"Why are you throwing the starfish back in? You can't help all of them."
"It's true that I can't help all of them, but I am helping this one and this one and that one," Draco said while motioning towards the various starfish in his hands before throwing them in to the sparkling blue ocean.
I was impressed with the words of wisdom that your father had spoken. Taking the example, I began to help him and started throwing as many starfish as I could back in to the water.
Hermione smiled inwardly. It was one of the things that had proved to Hermione that Draco really had changed.
"So you don't have to help the whole world, just do as much as you can and it will be enough," Hermione explained to Jon.
Jon smiled and ran to the kitchen.
"Where are you going?" Hermione asked her son.
"I'm getting some food for the homeless woman and her son."
