BABY'S FIRST WORD

All was quiet in the den, as Captain David Gillman, fed his adopted Pony daughter, Valentine, her daily bottle of milk. She was white, with a red mane, a pink tail, and a red heart for a symbol.

She was only a newborn and was about four months old when David found her that cold wintery night. Since she had no parents, he soon adopted her as his own. A decision he never once regretted. He had gotten alot of support from the residents of Dream Valley. Around David and Valentine were a multitude of aunts and uncles. All willing to support them. So, raising Valentine hadn't been too difficult. He sat in a rocking chair, rocking back and forth, as he fed Valentine. She suckled on her bottle as her violet colored eyes looked up towards Gillman. Sweet innocent eyes. One's that made anyone who looked into them, instantly turn to mush. Especially Gillman. Everyone thought him to be a cigar smoking, gun toting, straight shooting soldier, who didn't give a damm about peace. That was just not so. In reality, especially around his daughter, he was as loving and tranquail as a father pony caring for his foal. He smiled as Valentine gulped her milk. Gillman loved her dearly and would do anything to protect her. Anything. As a group of kidnappers had unfortunately found out the hard way...

Gillman sat there, rocking back and forth, holding Valentine, who was really enjoying her milk. It went like this for almost an hour before something amazing happened. Valenitne suddenly stopped suckling on her bottle. Gillman was suprised, than Valetine looked straight up at Gillman..."Daddy."

Gillman was almost jubulent, althought silently. He didn't want to wake everyone and planned on telling them the good news in the morning. As he saw Valentine was falling asleep, Gillman carried her to the nursery and placed her in a crib next to baby Paradise, placing a blanket over her. He than leaned foward and whispered softly,

"Good night, my precious Valentine."

He than walked out of the room and shut the door soflty, smiling all the way.

As he made his way down the corridor to his room, Gillman ran into Paradise.

"Hello," she said. "Just putting Valentine to bed?"

"Yep," answered Gillman, "Fed her bottle. Put her right to sleep."

"I'll bet", there was silence. "Heading to bed?"

"Nope, was just going to have a nightcap. Wanna join me?"

"Sure."

They both walked down to Gillman's room.

"Have a seat," said Gillman.

Paradise sat down, while Gillman poured them two glasses of Brandy. He handed one to Paradise, than sat down himself. For two full minutes they both sat there, sipping Brandy. Than Gillman spoke up, "You know, we must be very lucky."

"How so?" asked Paradise.

Gillman placed his drink on his left nightstand. "Well, we both our surrounded by good freinds and we have something else in common".

"What's that?" asked Paradise.

"You have your baby Paradise and I have my precious Valentine."

Paradise smiled, "That we do."

Gillman held up his drink. Paradise did the same. "To our children."

They both clanged thier glasses against each other.
