"I just don't get what they are used for Miss Kane!" Anubis looked at me with deep concern. I looked back at him, a scowl on my face. He had come to my school today, to check on me for my dad, when he overheard one of the kids say something he didn't understand. Now we were back at the Brooklyn house, in my room, and I wasn't getting anywhere trying to dissuade him from knowing what he was asking about.
"Sadie!" I automatically corrected him "and I thought that I told you that I wasn't going to have this conversation with you!" he frowned at me.
"But Miss Ka- Sadie! How else am I supposed to know? I don't feel comfortable asking your father, none of the gods would know, and I don't know anyone else well enough to ask them!" I huffed at him once again; too outraged that he would pursue this subject so much after I told him to drop it.
"I'm not going to tell you Anubis! And that's final! It's too awkward!"
"But why Sadie? Why?" he asked me like a little child. He looked at me with his chocolate eyes and I almost melted. He crossed his arms and spread his legs apart, just like any teenage guy would do when they were annoyed. I couldn't help but notice that when he spread his legs, one of them touched me, and it suddenly became very hard to concentrate.
"Because, I already told you, its way to awkward to discuss with you!" He looked at me annoyed.
"Why is it so awkward?"
"Because you are a boy! You may be a god, but you're still a male one!" I told him. Still hard to concentrate. He turned slightly to look at me, and now our legs are practically flush.
"but those girls were talking about it with guys! Why can't you tell me?"
"Because those girls were discussing it with their boyfriends!" I yelled at him exasperated. How did he not get that this was something private that people just don't go around talking about.
"But I'm your boyfriend!" he stated, a smile on his face.
"NO YOU'RE NOT!" I practically screamed in his face. He looked hurt.
"But I'm a boy and your friend" he reasoned.
"Ya, but a boyfriend is someone that you spend time with and are interested in romantically." I told him. This was almost as bad as the original question he had wanted answered, but at least he seemed to be distracted from that… what he said next made me catch my breath in my throat.
"I am interested in you romantically though Sadie! I have been ever since we met, all those months ago. When I said that I wanted you to catch me up on modern courtship rituals, I meant actually flirting. Sadie Kane, I think I love you!" He leaned in close to me, and I could hardly breath- Anubis loves me!
"I love you too Anubis!" He leaned forward and kissed me, and I kissed back with as much as I could.
"Sadie Kane, will you be my girlfriend?" he asked me. I said yes with all my heart, imagining little white angels singing the Alleluia chorus.
"Now, about my previous question…" he trailed off and I sighed. He had won.
"Alright then, Anubis, a condom is…"
