Silent Night

"12 o'clock" I whispered to myself as my foggy breath escaped from my mouth. "This is it." I looked around the quiet park slowly, partially paranoid. "Don't be afraid Finn. This is going to be cool, I know it!" I nodded at her but something inside of me was dreading this. The park was almost completely dark aside from some of the street lamps barely lit and some front porch lights still on. It didn't matter a whole lot, we were crouched behind the tall bush as instructed by Maria. My breath was coming in a little short as I anticipated the event. Suddenly a flashlight shot through the bushes, blinding us. "Here it comes Finn!" As my breath quickened a foot shot through the bushes. It was a bright orange converse."Josh! You got me so excited! Dang it!" The second leg came through the bush. The rest of the legs and torso pulled through as well. Josh crouched down and turned to Maggie. "I do it just for you babe" They chuckle and Josh gives Maggie a sweet kiss. They held it for a minute but I tried not to focus on that. "Hey guys, it's about 12:15 now. When's Maria gunna come?" Josh broke off of Maggie and shrugged a little while saying "I don't know man, but it's going to happen whether she comes or not." I nodded a little and continued to slowly look around the park. 20 minutes past, and finally Marie poked her head through the bushes. "Where have you been Marie? It's going to start in a minute." Marie sat down and ignored him. None of us talked as everything went quiet. "Scoot up guys" Marie said as we heard the park gates close. We watched as the outside world closed off and the inside world of the park woke up. I tried to say something but Marie slapped her hand over my mouth. She turned toward my ear. "We can't be known. We have to be silent!" We all watched in amazement as plants sprung up one by one. Out of the holes created by the plants came arms, and legs and a foot every now and then. I wasn't sure what to think. As I watched more and more, torsos and heads came out too. I was astonished to find that zombies were coming out of the ground! I looked at Maria to question, but she just looked on , as if this were some t.v. show. My jaw dropped. I wanted to run out there, but Maria grabbed me back before I could even shift a foot. I stared at each and everyone one of them at least a million times over. They were just walking around, talking to each other. It wasn't real talk, but their "uggs" and "urrgs" were to each other. It was fascinating. I looked over to josh and Maggie, they were just as astounded as I was. It was so amazing to me that the outside world didn't know about it, any of it, they were completely blind. Hours past, and when my watch's hands reached 5:00 a.m. everything shut down. The zombies stopped their conversations and crawled back in their holes. The sky turned to black and the gates reopened. Nothing looked like it was moved from the night before. It was amazing. Maria signaled for us to leave. It felt weird to walk past the flowers that sheltered zombies. But I liked it. We stepped out of the park, back into the real world, and the only thing Maria said to us was "don't tell a soul." We went our separate ways and we never spoke of it again.
