Believe
Someone great once told me the secret to life; Never give up, never back down, never back out, and never stop shooting for the stars. I wasnt really sure what it ment until I was forced to face it first hand. Life is hard enough being a teenager, but adding zombies into the mix is a whole other story. A story I never thought would happen, but what do I know. Its 2014 and the world is dead and lifeless.
I sat quietly at the edge of my bed contemplating my options. Its hard to believe how fast life can slip from someones hands. I convinced myself I wouldnt let them take me down, but anything is possible in a world so corrupt. "Are you ready?" Mason yelled from downstairs. His voice echoed through the near lifeless house, sending chills through out my entire body.
"Ready" I repeted quietly to myself. "Dont forget the box" He yelled once more and I quickly glanced at the small box that sat at the bottom of my bed. I sighed and shook my head. This box held all the reminders of my normal life, the life I missed with all my being. I smiled and reched for it slowly. Nancy Grace played softly in the background.
"President McCenly has issued all nonliving species to reside in the unknown underground tunnels for the time being due to testing and evecuations, we are expecting Akens, Tennessee to be a free standing human Civilization sometime in late october, but no news on the current population" Nancy beamed with excitment. "Great" I giggled to myself sarcastically. "Harlin! Will you please put a move on it!" My mother yelled sweetly, attempting to convince me to leave my life behind. I took one last glance around my room and shut the door with slight hesitation. "Bye" I mummbled without looking back and walked down stairs.
The scent on pancakes lingered in the hallway as I approached the kitchen. "Hungry Hunny?" My dad asked cheerfully. "Not so much" I giggled grabbing my cell phone off the table. "President McCenly is expecting us around 3, so we need to get a move on it" Mason spoke looking at his watch. "I never thought I would see the day my son would direct me out of the house in order to be on time" Mom joked kissing Mason on top of the head.
"Ready to rock?" I asked playfully, putting my hoodie on. "Lets Do Dis!" Mason yelled drumming on the top of the kitchen table. Having a brother that was two years older than me could be a little frustrating sometimes, but I loved him anyway. I smiled at the pictures that were hung upon the walls and laughed to myself. "We will be back" Dad assured me. "I know" I smiled and opened the door.
