"I'm sorry Yuuki…"

Two pale figures sat on the floor of a young man's dorm, drenched in the moonlight that seeped through the open window. The young girl blinked wearily as she tried not to relinquish her consciousness, while a young vampire wiped her blood from his chin.

"'S'alright, Zero…" she murmured, but was already drifting off. The boy lifted her tenderly into his arms and carried her off for help. She would be okay. She had to be.

"I just took too much." Zero spoke quietly, ashamed of his actions. Of letting the vampire that starved within him seize him like that. "My control is getting worse. I couldn't stop myself."

They were in Yuuki's bedroom now, in their adopted father's home. She watched him carefully from her bed as he chose his words.

"I think you should stop putting yourself in danger." He leaned against the wall and studied the ceiling. "Next time, stop me."

His words hung heavy in the air. She knew what he asked of her. She had made her promise. Her hands wandered to her bedside drawer, enclosing the gun that slept inside between her slender fingers.

"No." Zero's eyes stuck to the same spot on the ceiling. "Don't give up like this, Zero!" She stood up shakily while cradling the gun in her fingers and resting a hand on the bedpost for support. "You promised me you would try your best to put that day off-" She took a step forward but lost her balance, sending Zero forward to catch her, but his gentle hold gripped her by the elbows and looked her hard in the eye.

"Yuuki." Her eyes widened at the desperate plea in his voice. "Kill me." His eyes melted into a familiar blood-red. "Before I kill you."

Their eyes were locked together, even as Zero pushed her back into the wall. Wide were her eyes when his cold breath nipped at her neck, but silent was the gun that remained in her grasp.

"You don't have much blood left." He whispered to the thick blue vein that coursed like a stream through her neck. "It wouldn't take me long to drain the rest."

As she realized what he was trying to do, a single tear rested in the corner of her round brown eyes. The gun in her hand did not flinch or falter.

"Why…" A shiver crept down Yuuki's spine as icy fingers stroked her neck. "Why won't you do me this favor? Why won't you kill me?"

His head pulled back so he could look at the teary eyed girl. Diamonds danced in her eyes, but her cheeks remained dry, even as a gentle smile crawled into view.

"I won't give up on you, Zero. Not yet." As her hand reached up to his cheek, he leaned into it, into the comforting warmth that her palm offered. "I'll be your ally. Until the end."

End

A/N: I'm back! And in high school! So I've learned a whole bunch of stuff I didn't know in the 8th grade. Like how to write. This is by far my favorite so far… if you are unsatisfied with my other "works", be patient, I'm revising them to be more…. Worthy? To be called my own. I am, honestly embarrassed by some of it. … so…. Review please :)
