A long time ago in a town whose name has long since been forgotten, there lived and old witch. The witch was kind and gentle and had made many friends among the villagers. But one day, she stopped talking to the people, and remained quiet and secluded in her little house.
The villagers at first thought she was sick, and came and visited her, bringing food and flowers. But the food and the flowers all rotted on the doorstep where the people had left them. Soon the villagers began to become suspicious of the witch, and even fearful. They began to become afraid that the witch wanted to eat them.
But what the villagers didn't know was that the witch had placed a barrier around the town, which allowed people to enter, but not leave.
One day, a young girl who had gone missing stumbled into town. The villagers all rushed to her, and she fell unconscious after muttering the witches name three times.
Furious, and thinking that the witch had cursed the girl the people gathered up torches and went to the witches house and set it on fire, hoping to rid themselves once and for all.
What the villagers had never known about was the witches sister. The witches sister was barely a child, but powerful. She flew around the world, free. And right at that moment she was coming to visit her sister. But the witches sister would be too late for that.
The house burned with the witch inside of it, the witch being too weak to save herself, all her power had gone into the barrier. As the witch died, so did her magic. And down came the barrier the witch had placed, revealing a huge monster that had been living in the forest.
The people tried to run from the monster, but the beast was quick. It came quickly and slaughtered most of the town. Right at that moment, the witches sister flew over the mountain tops. She saw the monster and with a few well chosen words she did what her weak sister had not been able to do, kill the beast.
The young girl woke up then, and explained to all the villagers how the kindly old witch had placed a barrier around the town to protect them, and how the spell made it so that she could not speak.
The villagers were all grateful to the witch, and realized their mistake, but it was too late to go back now, for the witch was dead. Not even her sister could bring her back, for no magic can return the dead.
They came to the sister on their knees, begging forgiveness for the death of her sister, for they truly were sorry. But the sister did not speak. They asked her to talk, to say something to know that they were forgiven. The sister did not speak, instead she sung them a song. To this day, that song, is still sung.
