Chapter One:

Lullaby {Shawn Mullins}

Hermione held her head down as she scribbled furiously onto the parchment. Her five page essay for Advanced Defense was over a topic that had scarcely any information on it. Throughout her essay, Hermione found herself being a bit... redundant. Her thoughts were soon interrupted as someone placed their warm lips on her neck. Gasping, Hermione turned her head only to meet the eyes of her secret lover. She kissed him gently and then sighed. Draco's silver grayish eyes were filled with confusion.

"What is it? Hermione, what's the matter?" he whispered to her, rubbing her shoulder. She shook her head, long brown curls flowing with every movement. "Nothing. Just... this stupid, ridiculous essay!" She tossed the quill down and pushed the essay away. Hermione placed her head in her hands. "I hate Professor Frost! It is almost Christmas! What? Is this his gift to his students? Damn him! Damn him and his essays!" Draco began to chuckle and wrapped his arms around the estatic girl. "What is so funny?!" Hermione lifted her head up furiously. "Why the hell are you laughing?" Draco just shook his head. "I love you, Granger. You and your mental breakdowns."

"You're making fun of me! You are such a sadist! I hate you!" Hermione cried as the young wizard continued to laugh, even harder. "No, you don't," he replied, kissing her head gingerly. "You mean so much to me." His voice was filled with a different kind of emotion than usual. It was then Hermione's turn to question him. "Draco, sweetheart, what is it? Please tell me. And don't you dare say it's nothing!" Draco chuckled again. "Just... family issues. My mum... my father... Auntie Trix. You know," Draco looked down at Hermione. "The usual."

"Oh," Hermione whispered. "I see." After hearing him mention Bellatrix, she knew that the "family issues" were dealing with Draco's future. Although Voldemort was gone, there were still other dark lords and rulers. The Malfoys would find one to serve and Draco would, forcibly, follow.

"And from the stage I can tell that
She cant let go and she cant relax"

"Hey," Draco said, trying to sound reassuring, "don't worry about it. Let's just enjoy what we have while we still can." With that, Draco began to kiss her, roughly, yet gently at all the same time. Hermione returned the kiss, tears rolling silently down her face. Draco, however, did not notice this at first. He pulled her on top of him as he laid on the couch. Hermione tried to stop the tears from leaving her eyes, but they simply fell harder and soon she began to sob loudly. "Hermione, no. Don't cry, please." Draco sat up and pulled Hermione into a hug. Humming a song, he closed his eyes as he rocked the stressful girl to sleep.

"And just before
She hangs here head to cry
I sing to her a lullaby, I sing
Everythings gonna be all right
Rockabye, rockabye

Everythings gonna be all right
Rockabye, rockabye"
