Warnings: Season 6 finale spoilers. Dean's thoughts as he leaves his note and his gun for Sam.
This was so wrong. So warped and twisted that even after a lifetime of practice, Dean was having trouble dealing.
Sam looked peaceful. Quiet. Restful, as if merely taking a nap, instead of trapped inside his own personal hell.
If Sam didn't come through this, it would be Dean's fault. Making deals with Death could never end well, and he'd known it, but desperation hadn't allowed reason.
Now the wall had crumbled, his angel was insane and he just had to fight on without them.
His small family shrunk to him and Bobby, sitting in the Impala, facing the night.
The title is from Mumford and Sons – I Gave You All. It seemed to fit….
