Wish Upon A Star

"I trust you're done preparing. Let's go," Saito said begining to walk away.
Kenshin turned around to leave and follow Saito; Sano did the same. There was something I need to say last night, but I never said it yet. And now's the time. "Kenshin!" he turned back the moment I called his name. "When we go back to Tokyo, let's all go back home together."
He smiled his typical rurouni smile. "Alright Miss Kaoru, we will." And with that, Kenshin, Sanosuke, and Saito walked off in the distance, not knowing when they would return, or if they would return.

The next day was a very quiet day. Not really much excitment, everyone had missed Kenshin's "oros'", and Sano's begging for meals. Even Misao wasn't as cheery as she usually was.
The day passed by slowly, and the night was starry and quiet. The cresent moon was smiling down on me as I climbed up on the roof while everyone was asleep. I looked up at the moon. 'There's not much to smile about,' I thought.
"Miss Kaoru?"
I looked back and saw Misao. "Misao, why are you up?"
"I couldn't sleep. I always come up here when that happens," Misao answered with a small smile. "What about you, couldn't sleep either?"
I shook my head. "I couldn't." I was too worried to sleep. I didn't wat to sleep either. All I wanted was for Kenshin and Sanosuke to come back home.
My thoughts were interuppted. "You're worried about Himura, aren't you?" Misao said with a smirk.
"Yeah, I am," I said. But, I knew Misao was worried too. "What about you Misao? Aren't you worried about Aoshi?" Misao looked down so that her bangs could cover her blushing face. I smiled. "You don't have to worry Misao. Kenshin doesn't go back on his promises. He'll bring him back."
"That's true. Same with you. He promised you that you would all go back to Tokyo together. So you shouldn't be worrying either."
"I know," I said softly. "But.. it's hard not to, Misao."
Misao could tell I wanted to be left alone. She smiled and nodded her head. "Miss Kaoru," she said getting up. "Have a good night sleep. I'm gonna go in now." Misao went back inside leaving me alone on the roof.
I looked up at the sky. The stars were shining even more brightly, and the moon was still smiling. Kenshin, everyday I worry about you and wonder if your alright. I know I can't stop you from doing the things you need to do. I just can't help not missing you all the time, I thought as tears began running down my cheeks. Then, I looked up and found the brightest star and began to make a wish. "I wish.. I wish. that Kenshin would come back safetly because.. I need him." I looked down and closed my eyes, picturing us back home in Tokyo with everyone. Megumi, Ayame and Suzume, Dr. Gensai, Tae, Tsubame.. everyone. But the picture in my mind made me cry harder. What if it never happens again? What if I never see him again?
I glanced up at the star again. "He needs to come back because.. I love him." After that, I blinked, and Kenshin was sitting right beside me. Holding my hand and telling me that everything would be okay. "Kenshin.." I blinked again, and he was gone. I stood up and wiped away my tears with the sleeve of my yukata and took a deep breath. "Kenshin, wherever you are, please, come back to me."
I went inside the Aoiya and fell into a deep dreamless sleep.
