Chapter 1
Koenma called his four spirit detectives into his office.
Koenma- "Okay detectives. I have a new case for the four of you. But this one will be harder than usual. It will be very difficult, in fact. So I have 'hired' help for you. Your mission is an investigation, and very likely an assassination. You are to get information on the criminal activity in a city in the Makai. This..." he clicked a remote and his television monitor turned on. A demon's picture appeared on the screen. The demon was male, with large, pointed ears, green skin, small, beady red eyes, and no hair. It looked like a common, weak demon. "This is Morgos. He shouldn't be hard to defeat, but we can't do anything without evidence from the Makai, seen by myself. This mission's difficulty will be stealth. He has spies all over the city. Remember to be careful."
Yusuke- "Well, sounds like fun. But where's our 'backup', pacifier- breath?"
Koenma- "Your... backup is already in the city. Has been for months. Botan will take you to the portal. Lay low. Your help will find you. Lani is very skilled at this sort of thing, remember that. She knows what she's doing. Oh, and Yusuke?"
Yusuke- "Yeah? What?"
Koenma- "My name is 'Lord Koenma', to you. Got it?"
Botan- "Okay boys! Follow me!"
Fifteen minutes later, Yusuke, Kuwabara, Kurama and Hiei were floating down into a very busy, very crowded city. Almost instantly, they were being chased by a crowd of hungry demons that had smelled the two humans. The four detectives quickly ran into a small alley, while the crowd rushed past.
Kuwabara- "Phew! I thought we were goners!"
"heheheh... You are... I found you!" A tall, lithe demon was blocking the alley's entrance. "Just you wait, I'll call my crew in a second... You'll be delicious...." He grinned at them, baring his huge fangs.
Woman's voice- "Humans? Delicious? No..." The demon quickly turned to see a tall, blonde woman in a black miniskirt and a dark red tube top. She appeared to be a prostitute. "What's wrong? You look bored, honey..." She said smoothly. "Maybe I could remedy that..." The large demon grinned and moved towards her.
Demon- "Maybe you can..." His hand stretched out towards her. She snatched it quickly and twisted the demon's entire left arm from his body in an instant. Frozen by shock, the demon could only watch as the woman's hand shot up towards his face. A single, small blast of energy left the demon headless, not to mention dead.
Woman- "Spirit Detectives. Follow me please. Do only what I tell you if you want to live."
Yusuke nodded and they dashed through many dark alleys until they reached a tiny house on the outskirts of town. The woman opened the door and silently motioned for the boys to go in. Once again, they did as she told. The house was dark and quiet. A lamp was turned on, but the woman was not in sight.
Kuwabara- "Hey, where'd that lady go?"
Different, soft, higher voice- "I'm right here." All three boys turned about the see, a ghost.
Kuwabara- "YYYEEEEAAAAAAAARRRRGGGHHHH!!!!! A GHOST!!!"
Girl- "Not a ghost, idiot. Your much needed assistance." She stepped farther into the soft lamplight, revealing a very pale girl, looking to be around 16 years old, with waist-long white hair, perfectly white skin, pointed ears and red eyes. She was about Hiei's size, just a little bit taller. She was wearing a black, long-sleeved shirt and black pants with high heeled black boots (the reason for her being taller than Hiei, idiots...)
Hiei- 'Is she an albino? That's odd... Albinos are very rare in the demon-kind... Is she part human? or is it a......?'
Girl- "Terribly sorry for the deception. Now, you did arrive later than I had planned, so there will not be much time to rest and get well acquainted. You will definitely need disguises before we go... So please, this way." She led them to the center of the room and knelt down in order to pull open a section of the floor, revealing stairs, which she quickly walked down. She returned a few minutes later with her arms full of boxes and clothes. She threw a high collared black uniform at Yusuke, with matching shoes and gloves. She threw a blood red suit at Kurama, average, dark blue Makai clothing at Hiei, and a leather collar at Kuwabara. "Put it on. Yes, yes, I'll leave. Why wouldn't I?
Kuwabara- "Why a collar? Do I look like a dog to you?"
Girl- "Perhaps not to me, but to some high class demons, yes. Many of them keep humans as pets or slaves."
Kuwabara- "What?!!!"
Kurama- "You are 'Lani'. am I correct?"
Girl- "Yes, yes I am."
Kuwabara- "Why do you look like a ghost?"
Lani- "I happen to be an albino, no skin color. A shape-shifting albino demon. I think that covers all that you need to know."
Yusuke- "So that's how you can be different people---"
Lani- "Yes. We really don't have a lot of time, so please change." She went back in the "basement".
