The Morning After

Bella POV. Takes place the morning after the day Edward leaves.

Disclamier: I don't own Twilight, Bella, or Edward. If anything, they own me.

I opened my eyes to the bright room

I opened my eyes to a bright room. The air was thick, heavy. I was lying in my bed, above the covers, my clothes and my shoes still on. I couldn't remember brushing my teeth or even getting into bed…I couldn't remember anything about yesterday.

There was a strange feeling in my gut like something was different. Something had changed. Something happened yesterday, I could tell. But I couldn't figure out what. I sat up abruptly, searching the room for Edward. My eyes fell on the vacant rocking chair. I stirred my hand around in the space beside me, feeling for his cool body lying beside me…but he wasn't there.

"Edward?" I whispered.

And then it all came flooding back. Everything. I sat on my bed for what seemed like days, reliving every moment of it. Every word.

"Bella?" I hadn't even noticed that Charlie had entered the room, but the tone of his voice led me to believe that he had been standing there for some time. I could feel his eyes on me, feel them like drill severing into my head, but I couldn't take my eyes off the rocking chair. I turned my head. The window…the window was latched shut. Closed.

No, I told myself. No.

My eyes wide, I turned towards Charlie, still frozen in the same position on the bed. Something must have been in my face expression. Something. Because Charlie drew backwards slightly and then started to hesitantly stagger over towards me.

I was quivering. Everywhere. My teeth were chattering; it seemed like the entire bed was moving. That the entire house was moving. That the world was spinning.

It was just a dream. It was just a nightmare. He's gone hunting. It is sunny out, he is hunting. He's with Alice.

"Bella," Charlie was speaking to me, looking at me, trying to hold my body still with his hands.

My breath clung to the inside of my throat, my insides closing up. The sound of my gasping cut my ears and swallowed the room whole. Charlie's mouth dropped and his face paled.

But I couldn't stop. I felt like I was underwater…I was losing air…

I can't breatheCharlie, I can't breatheEdward

"Edward," I gasped.

"Bella, Bella," Charlie said soothingly. "It's okay, listen to me now, Bella everything is okay."

He was gone. He was gone.

I fell down into the blankets.
