Chizu and Ayane sighed simultaneously, eyes shut against the bright, invasive sunlight of the cold afternoon. Their breath shimmered in the air before dissipating.
If only their worries would do the same.
School felt futile, as did life. This was more than depression. It was hopelessness at its core, all-consuming, like an ache that just won't quit. Life hurt, deep and true.
Yet when Chizu's lips brushed Ayane's, she felt immensely bright, hope filling up her pores to the brim, threatening to shatter her into dozens of tiny pieces.
Hand in hand, they would make it, no matter what.
