I haven't written in years and decided now would be a good time to start again, so here is my attempt at a short story. Any feedback is appreciated :)

The sky was heavy and grey above Mount Lanakila. Delicate white snowflakes swirled and danced through the air, covering the ground in a thick white dusting. The wind howled softly as it whistled past the mountain, agitating the snow banks at the side of the path. It always seemed absurd to Moon that this amount of snow was possible in a tropical region like Alola. She pulled her hat further over her ears and her scarf tighter around her neck as she continued on her trek up the mountain to the Pokémon League. The snow crunched softly underfoot as she made her way up the steep incline, her breathing heavy as she struggled to keep her balance and maintain a good pace. It was unbelievably cold, and she couldn't wait to get to the sanctuary of the Pokémon centre that was visible on the horizon.

As she neared the red roofed building, Moon noticed a petite figure standing outside, their blonde hair blowing in the wind as they attempted to shelter from the snow. She immediately recognised it to be Lillie, and raced towards the girl who had accompanied her on her island trial.

"Lillie!" She called, "what are you doing out in the snow? It's freezing go inside!"

Lillie turned, waving to her as she approached. "M-moon! You're h-here!" the small girl stuttered, shivering as she pulled her friend in for a hug. Moon, noticing how cold she was, wrapped her arms around her tightly in an attempt to warm her up.

"You should have stayed inside" she said, pulling away but staying close enough for Lillie to feel her body heat. She removed her hat from her head, and smiled as she fitted it on the blonde girl opposite.

Lillie's cheeks turned a shade of scarlet as she struggled to get her words out.

"I um- I wanted to wish you good luck"

Moon stared into her emerald eyes, but Lillie was unable to make eye contact. Sensing her nervousness, she took a step back. "Thankyou Lillie, but you really should go inside where it's warm now. I don't want you catching a cold." She grabbed Lillie's hand, ignoring her babbling as she dragged her into the Pokémon centre.

Sitting at the hot drink bar, Moon removed her scarf and fit it carefully around her companion's neck. "You warming up now?" She asked, noting Lillie's red face.

"Y-yes Moon, I- I'm okay"

'Something isn't right here' Moon thought to herself, glancing over at her while she ordered two Tapu cocoas at the bar. 'Why won't she look at me properly?'

The two chatted over their drinks, discussing strategy for the upcoming battle and laughing over the antics of Moon's team, who had been let out to play. But Lillie never seemed to relax, always averting her eyes and laughing nervously. As Moon got up to leave, Lillie grabbed her hand, pulling her close. Shocked, Moon blushed as she stood on her tiptoes and put her arms round her neck. She stared at the girl opposite her, blushing. Lillie's hair, which was peeking out from under Moon's hat, framed her face perfectly. Her lips were slightly parted and her cheeks a deep red. "Um- Lillie, what are you-"

Moon was cut off by Lillie pressing her lips gently against her own. Her heart beat fast as she kissed Lillie back, holding her close before the smaller girl pulled away. Both girls were blushing heavily as Lillie brushed moon's fringe aside.

"A good luck kiss" she whispered, before leaning in for another one, which Moon gladly accepted.

Moon left the Pokémon centre, in which Lillie had promised to wait for news of the new Alolan champion, smiling to herself. Walking out into the howling snowstorm, she was not sad at the loss of her hat and scarf. She no longer needed them - the thought of Lillie cheering her on kept her warm enough.
