Mana Wings: A Fanfic by Gyppy
Timeline: During Tales of Symphonia
Summary: Those wings had carried him far and wide, to places he never would've hoped to be. But whenever he drew those wings, it reminded him of his lost love...
Pairings: YuanxMartel
Author's Note: Haven't seen many YxM fics out there, and I figured since I supported the pairing, it wouldn't be too bad to write about it.
If you'll notice, you only see Yuan's wings once in the entire game (up on the Fooji Mountains). I figured there had to be an explanation for that, so... this came about. XD
Disclaimer: I do not own Tales of Symphonia or Namco. If I owned ToS, the characters would be like those in Rising Shadow. If I owned Namco, Tales of Phantasia would be out in the U.S. Got it? Oh, and I'm also broke. So please don't sue me.

They would forever remain in his memory. Those haunting green eyes, the ones that entranced him.
Four thousand years before, he had found love. And then, in the blink of an eye, that love was lost.
Her brother set about twisting the universe to his desires in an attempt to resurrect his sister. Using the power of Cruxis Crystals, the three remaining seraphim had been living for a long, hard time.
Kratos had gone to Sylvarant after hearing of the Age of Lifeless Beings; he seemed to still be grieving over the loss of his son, the result of his coming to Sylvarant. He now believed that his son had been found, after fourteen long years.
Mithos was still working to attempt Martel's revival. Colette, Sylvarant's Chosen, had traveled all over Tethe'alla and even back to Sylvarant in an attempt to prevent her death. And Mithos hated that fact... he hated it so much that he continued to chase down Colette and the Renegades, as well as the rest of her group.
Yuan was now the leader of the Renegades, though it was a secret, undercover mission. He was also part of Cruxis, one of the Four Seraphim, though seeking a goal that opposed Mithos.
And because he had lived for four thousand years due to those wings, he refused to draw them. Those wings that reminded him... of Martel.
The only reason he had lived this long without her was because of those wings. If he hadn't been so willing to give himself those wings, he could've died peacefully along with her. He could've joined her in death... and perhaps he wouldn't be subject to the cruel experiments that Martel was undergoing, courtesy of Mithos.
But he refused to give up. He had to stop Martel's revival, so that she could rest in peace, like she should've been doing all those four thousand years. Martel was now a lifeless being, living on forever in isolation, though merged with the Great Seed.
Lloyd's group was now heading out to break the mana links that bound the Great Seed. Yuan hoped that Martel would finally be able to rest in peace after all those years.
He hoped and prayed that she would no longer have to endure this agony.
And he hoped that after she was set free, he would be too.

Author's Note: Short, tragic fic from me. This is a oneshot, so there shouldn't be any sequel. (If there's any sequel, it'll be postgame.) It should be fairly easy to discern when this takes place, based off of the events.
I know it kinda reminds you of Torn Apart (if you've read that fic), but if you'll notice, it's full of hope as well as tragedy. Yuan's a really deep character if you explore him, and sometimes it can be really hard to explore every part of him.
