The forest was dark and cold, with only the moon as the light source to light up the path. The sky was rumbling as if it would rain within few minutes. With a low growling sound that may be heard from a large canine animal, a small figure of a child ran out of the forest.
The figure ran up the hill that was located at the end of the forest. Leaving a trail of red liquid behind, the figure quickly made its way toward the pine tree on top of the hill. The animalistic sound growing louder as the shadow grew closer to the pine hill.
Half-way up the hill the figure looked back at the forest, revealing her face. Black hair that covered her back came down in front to cover her face gently, her green and red eyes, widened with fear, her paled skin reflecting the little light that the moon was giving. She was beautiful, even as a child, but the fear in her eyes were just too great.
Her mouth was slightly parted as she gave off puffs of breaths. She was clearly exhausted but she knew that she cannot rest until she reached the pine tree, that was what her mother said continuously until they have parted somewhere in the forest while avoiding the monsters.
It was as if the monsters knew that she was tired and almost giving up, more growling sounds were heard and flashes of red sets of lights, that eerily started looking like set of eyes, started showing up in the shadows of the woods.
Thinking that she had no time to waste looking back, she quickly focused to the pine tree again. She had to arrive there before them, her pursuers. When the screeching sound filled the air, fears from her eyes washed away with a new feeling, devastation. She was not fast enough. She will not be able to reach the tree in time.
Then she saw the light. A fire. Maybe a torch? Somebody was holding on it beside the pine tree. He looked back as if to call somebody and more human figures appeared beside the first one. They had all weapons in their hands.
Help.
She saw a new hope.
They started running towards her. Then they passed her to charge at the monsters. The raven-haired girl has still not stopped her running to the tree. She would only stop when she would reach it, that was her only thought.
After a short battle with the monsters, the new figures looked around to find the girl. Only to find an injured pitch-black fox with two tails at the foot of the pine tree.
