He was cleaning the same damn spot he'd been cleaning this morning. It wasn't that it was still dirty, but from here he could see whenever Blonde Doctor was at the nurses station, doing her hourly gossip session with Nice Nurse. Janitor loved the way that Blonde Doctor cocked her head to the side and squeaked when she was angry or surprised. He loved the way she blew the fringe out of her face and flicked her head backwards at the same time.

But most of all, Janitor loved the way that whenever she spotted him, Blonde Doctor would come up and say 'hi'. Even a simple wave made his day. Because no one else in this entire hospital gave a crap about what he did or where he was, he had to go to them if he wanted any attention. Maybe that was why he lashed out at so many people? Maybe that was the reason for the weird quirkiness he carried around with him?

Today was one of those days where Blonde Doctor noticed him in the corner of her eye and waved enthusiastically. He nodded back in acknowledgment, pretty sure that she had no idea what he was thinking.

You see her

You can't touch her

You hear her

You can't hold her

You want her

You can't have her

You want to

But she won't let you

Janitor did not like the way that Mean Doctor had been treating his lady recently, so it only seemed natural that he ended up telling Dr Cox that he and Blonde Doctor would end up together and that he could prove it. He knew it was a dangrous thing to place a bet on a woman's love, but it was easy just telling her the game and letting her play along too – which she did. She even added a small kiss to the cheek. That made him feel so good that suddenly he didn't know when to stop.

Later, he told her that the bet was still on even though it wasn't; he told her that they needed to go on a date together. She bought it, agreeing to the whole thing, which in a way should have made him feel bad but all he cared about was the fact that she was almost his… he could feel it.

She had a great time. It wasn't until afterwards that Mean Doctor spoilt the entire evening by telling her the truth – showing Blonde Doctor that Janitor had just tricked her on the date. Needless to say, Blonde Doctor was angry. Why had he brought her back to the hospital straight after?

She's not so special

So look what you've done, boy

Now you wish she'd never

Come back here again

He didn't know what to say whilst she walked away, until the words spilt out in the most un-characteristic fashion. "You're the only one around here that treats me like a real person."

Now I'm nailed above you

Gushing from my side

It's with your sins

That you have killed me

He couldn't even believe that the sentence had left his mind. Janitor was not one for having feelings, of course. No one could believe that, not ever. He was just a janitor, in the end. But Blonde Doctor did – she turned around and listened to him, appreciating his pain. She understood him, not like the others would, and she told him that it was all okay.

The next week was just like any other, only today he was fixing a lightbulb. Elliot – he knew her name now and was determined to use it more often – was chatting to Nice Nurse once more about a potential boyfriend she had met recently. JD came into the corridor, grabbing Elliot by the hips and spinning her around for a hug to celebrate something or other. It was strange to think that not so long ago she hated him for breaking her heart. Janitor remembered all of the ex's that Blonde Doctor had had since he'd known her. Then he thought about how she would never realise how much it pained him to see those men come and go. That he would never be one of those men.

Thinking of your sins I die

Thinking how you'd let them touch you

How you'd never realise

That I'm ripped and hang forsaken

Knowing never will I rise again
