She honestly didn't know where she could go from here.
She told him she didn't come back for him
She didn't want him.
She tried to run for her past. She ran far and wide.
But there was no escaping the mark he had left in her heart.
And every time she saw him and the brown haired beauty together
She would cry herself to sleep.
But still she couldn't erase the pain.
And she would tell herself,
Why does she need him, she has Dan Humphrey.
Smart. Witty. Funny.
But not Nate.
No.
She couldn't have him. She's not even supposed to want him.
He's Blair's Boyfriend.
Blair's beautiful. Rich. Intelligent.
She's wishes she could be Blair.
She wishes she could have brown hair instead of blond.
Brown eyes instead of blue.
But she's not.
Friends. Buddies. Mates.
Nate and Serena. Friends for life.
That's what she used to think they were.
Until they slept together.
So she ran.
From everything. And everyone.
But tonight she promises is the last time she'll ever shed a tear for Nate Archibald.
It's graduation and they'll never see each other after that.
Or so she thinks.
She hears footsteps.
She knows it's him with out turning around.
Their eyes connect. Blue on brown.
Perfection was never so perfect. Or wrong.
He wraps his strong arms around her and pulls her close to him.
It's the final dance.
So why isn't he with Blair?
As if he could read her thoughts.
He murmurs something about Chuck into her ear.
She feels her heart drop knowing this isn't about him wanting her.
But Blair being with someone else.
Second place.
It was always something she'd been good at.
It'd be her first place specialty.
"Why are you here Nate?"
She asked without even thinking.
"I want to see you before you run from me again."
It was true.
She ran from him.
Blair.
Lily.
Eric.
And the list could go on and on.
"I don't want you to leave again. I won't let you leave again. I don't want to lose you."
"You've always had me Nate."
It's simple how she waited her whole life to say those few words.
He lifted her chin with one of his free hands and looked into her eyes.
"As if we could stay like this forever. It would be perfect."
His lips.
Closer and closer to hers.
Less than an inch away.
He always tastes of beer and whiskey.
But she doesn't mind.
But before their lips actually meet.
The door flies open.
And there stands Blair.
Looking as furious as hell.
"I was just coming to look for you B."
He says reaching out for her.
She doesn't know how lucky she is.
To have him.
The one thing She knew she'd would never have.
"You were doing the hell of a job Nate."
"But I found you didn't I?"
He kisses Blair's lips softly.
Her stomach churns.
And pain shoots through her body.
She runs past the happy couple.
Tears in her eyes.
She promises those are the last tears.
But she still has the scar he's left on her heart.
Unseen.
Unknown.
With no tears left to show for it.
