Allow me to introduce myself- I am a midsummer nightmare94 and this my attempt to write a monolouge in the point of the view of the Beast from the Brothers Grimm classic fairy tale Beauty and the Beast. It may be slightly out of character, but it shouldn't be anything to extreme.
Dsclaimer: I do not own Beauty and the Beast.
So, so many mistakes. What would it have been like if he had done just that one thing differently? If he had treated the witch with kindness and bought her rose, even if her appearance had repulsed him? But that would have been too wise, to mature, to act one something other than what he could see. Besides, what would it have looked like if he, the ever handsome and fashionable prince, had associated himself with a person so horrid looking?
His situation wasn't entirely his fault; the former prince had convinced himself of that long ago. What of the nobles who had joined him in mocking the old woman, even as she threatened him with her curse? What had been their punishment?
There had been none. He alone bore the brunt of the witch's rage- they had been allowed to live their lives as normally and as happily as could be. And who cared that the prince that they had once lauded over was forever separated from society and had been transformed into a creature that parent's used to frighten their children? Who cared that he was now so malformed and hideous that the Devil himself would have scampered away at the sight of him? They were safe, they were unharmed- the fate of a foolish prince hardly mattered when those facts were considered.
He had kept the rose. He didn't know why- it merely felt like the proper thing to do. He had nearly destroyed the damned thing after the curse had taken its course- it seemed to taunt him, to flaunt its beauty as he had once flaunted his. But he had stopped himself- perhaps it was the need to have something in his life that wasn't horrible, although he wasn't entirely sure.
Whatever the reason he kept it, it served as a reminder of what he once was, and of the mistake that robbed everything from him.
I hope you enjoyed my story, and please review. Constructive critisim is appreciated.
