Summary: What exactly happened when Al asked Winry to marry him? Slight Elric fluff!
Of Girls and Pie
It was a hot summer day when Alphonse Elric started walking to Winry's house, his brother by his side. Al's slightly chubby face was taut with determination and Ed - well, Ed had the same frown on his face that he usually had on when he lost something.
It had all started with one of their arguments, and the topic was who would marry Winry. (That also included who would save her from the evil dragon.) When their mother had heard them, she just patted their heads and told them to play Rock, Scissors, Paper, and whoever won got to marry Winry.
Unfortunately, while Ed chose paper, Al had chosen scissors. So Al proceeded to pump his fist into the air and drag Ed out to gather flowers for Winry, which had been their mother's idea.
After the youngest brother picked the wildflowers, Ed grudgingly picked out the weeds and combed through his brother's hair with his chubby fingers, saying how no girl would want to marry him if he wasn't presentable. With a childish pout on his face, he started walking to Winry's and Al caught up with him.
"So… so do you think Winry will say yes?" Ed's frown disappeared as he glanced at Al with a reluctant smile.
"Of course she will! Why wouldn't she?"
Al shrugged, and a few petals drifted to the ground. "What if she….. What if she likes someone else?"
Ed scowled again and poked his brother in the shoulder. "She doesn't! She'll say yes, and then you can rescue her all the time."
Al considered this, then nodded. If his brother said so, then it was probably true.
Soon, they had arrived at the Rockbell's house, and Al smoothed out the wrinkles in his clothes before knocking on the door. Pinako answered the door, staring at them through the glasses perched on her nose.
"Winry! You have visitors!" Winry rushed out, followed by Den, and they both skidded slightly on the floor. Al gulped - she was wearing her favorite dress and a big smile was on her round face.
"Ed! Al!" She ran outside as Pinako shut the door chuckling. Before she could say anything, Ed nudged him and Al whipped out the flowers, clenching them tightly in his fist.
"Winry, will you marry me?" Winry blinked, staring at him. He blushed, "I-I know I don't have a ring or anything….. But I can get one later!"
Winry stared at him owlishly again before letting out a shriek and running back into the house.
It was silent in the grassy yard, then Al started sniffling. "…Nii-san… she said…" His face scrunched up. "She didn't say anything!"
Ed pulled him into a hug as Al let out a muffled wail.
"It'll be okay, Al…. who needs girls?!" Al sniffled again then rubbed his eyes with his fist.
"C'mon, let's go home… And when mom's asleep, we can sneak out some of that pie tat she made this afternoon!" Al nodded and clutched his brother's hand as they walked home.
Nii-san was right, he told himself - after all, who needed girls when he had his brother and pie?
