Conundrum
By LTP-girl
Olivia raced towards her desk in a mad panic, collecting her belongings and stuffing them into her bag.
Elliot watched on from his desk, concerned by his partner's erratic behaviour. He got out of his seat, and waltzed slowly towards her.
"Everything okay, Liv?" he enquired. He stood broadly with his arms folded.
She glanced up at him as she rummaged through her desk drawer.
"I-I-I just need to get way for a while," she replied, sounding panicked, her attention divided.
He glanced back at her with a confused frown. "Get away? Why?"
She fastened her bag, and swung in over her shoulder. "Because I did something," she replied simply.
"Did something? What did you do?"
"I need to get away from Jack McCoy," she replied simply.
Jack McCoy? He placed his hands on her shoulders in an attempt to calm her down. "Liv, What's going on? You gave McCoy the files on the current case, didn't you?"
"Yes I did. But this has got nothing to do with the files, or the case," she replied, her voice shaky. She looked into his determined eyes. She couldn't hide that something was bothering her. Not from him.
"Well, what is it then?" He began to worry. He had never seen Olivia in such a distressed state. What could McCoy have done to make her so upset? Had Olivia slept McCoy? That was the only explanation he could think of, well aware of the District Attorney's reputation.
Her hair was tangled and she was sweating, but she promised herself she wouldn't cry.
"Liv, tell me," Elliot pressed.
She looked away from him, feeling pinned down by his piercing stair. She took a moment to collect her thoughts. "I broke Michael Cutter's nose."
"You broke Cutter's nose?"
"Yes."
"Again?"
"Yes. In two places this time."
He dug into his pants pockets and handed her his car keys. "Hear, take these," he said in understanding tone. "Drive to the border. This whole thing should die down in few days."
She reached her arms around him in a grateful embrace. "Thank you," she replied with relief, glad of his assistance. She then left the front entrance of the squad room.
"Any time," he called back at her. An amused smile spread across his face as he made his way back towards his desk. He chuckled to himself as he took his seat behind his desk, and leaned back in his chair. He anticipated how Cutter's new nose would turn out this time.
