Really, this is more of a rabble (rant drabble) than anything. Just had to get this thought out on the computer before it drove me crazy. No spoilers for anything, and you really only have to be a part of one of the fandoms this story includes to understand it. In fact, it could probably be understood by someone who has no idea what Fullmetal Alchemist, Supernatural, or Person of Interest even are (though not as well). Enjoy!

They are soldiers, every moment of every day of their lives. Really, they were born that way.

Of course they had their own childhoods, their own amount of time allowed to be innocent children. But even when they were young, they were always destined for something… bigger.

For better or worse.

They've all witnessed Hell in its truest form, suffered through horrific things no human should have to endure. They've all dabbled in the dark, dancing with reckless abandon around that line between the light and shadow.

But as dark and desperate they have gotten-they've thoroughly convinced themselves that they're evil freaks who lurk in the dark-they belong just as much to the light. Those hands, trained to handle all sorts of dangerous weapons and cause mayhem, can be truly delicate. Whenever they clean guns, or hold the ones they care for close, gingerly attending to fevers or wounds, those hands can be the gentlest things in the world.

Their eyes have been filled with hatred, true. But those eyes, whether they be green, blue, or even gold, have also been filled with pure love and tenderness.

So when these men convince themselves that they are nothing but monsters, they're mistaken.

They are meant to destroy.

But they are also meant to create and save countless lives.

They're destined to always teeter on the tightrope between the darkness and light, destined to shape the world in so many ways, leave an impact on both the good and wicked, an impact so much greater than any mortal destined to either completely annihilate or always give life could ever hope to leave behind.

And really, doesn't that make them the most human of all of us?
