Lily heard a screech, but she was tired so she ignored it hoping it was just a passing screech from whatever owl was making a racket. Then she felt a a small peck on her head. She opened her eyes to see an impatient look coming from Speck. Speck is a midnight black owl with goldish eyes. He has a speck of white in his black fur which explains his name.
"Morning speck" said lily. Speck had a small package with him and a letter, lily took it off him and the owl just waited. Lily opened the letter:
Dear lily,
Happy 12th birthday, I remember and dont worry I know you dont like a massive fuss so I sent Speck to your dorm as I know everyone has gone for breakfast early, anyway Happy Birthday, I couldnt think what to get for you but then I saw this the other day so I thought that would be a great present hope you lile it
Severus
Lily opened the package and pulled out a flower, it was a lily. Lily smiled at her friends gift, she also read the note in the package: I put a charm on it so you can keep it forever it symbolises your name which you probably got.
Lily put her letter under her pillow with the lily.
"Come on speck" she said and the owl perched on her arm. She went to the boys dorm which was empty, she saw Severus reading as always she thought and skipped over to him. "Morning sev" she sang and Severus looked up and smiled. Speck flew to the desk nearest. "I just thought you should have something for your birthday and your my best friend so I had to. Lily hugged him and Severus was so glad she didnt see him blushing, they then walked off to breakfast smiling.
