"Ty, you know that dog that's been missing for six weeks now?" Jocelyn asked, referring to the poster of a missing dog.
"Yeah, why?" He asked, looking up from his iPhone.
"I saw it on my way over here, I felt so bad for him, he looked like he hadn't been washed in a year," she said.
"I can take you over there to look for him," Ty said. Jocelyn rolled her eyes.
"I need you for your strength! I'm not caging a chow! Or luring one!" She said.
"What am I? Bait?" He asked jokingly.
"Please sweetheart..." Jocelyn asked. Ty took a breath in and nodded.
"If I come back with rabies I'm blaming you," he said as Jocelyn stood and began to look for his towels. She kissed him on the cheek.
"Thank you!" She squeaked.
"Ok, call me if you need me," Ty slumped lower into his seat.
"No! Come with me!" Jocelyn begged.
"Why? It's your idea!" Ty said.
"Please," Jocelyn went back into her begging voice. Ty sighed, put his phone away and followed her out into the forest.
Walking deeper into a forest alone wasn't really the best idea to look for a dog.
Separated now, the teen took out his phone and stared down at it while walking. Then, he stopped when he saw a flash of fur.
A chow emerged. He had ragged fur, that seemed wet. Foam dripped from his mouth and his eyes were caked with pus.
"Eh, Jocelyn, the dog is here...it's got rabies..." Ty began to back up, and the dog simply stared. It met his steps back and then growled, baring yellow teeth that were smeared in blood.
"What?! Ty, get out of there!"
The dog growled and lurched forward. Ty dropped his phone in surprise and moved quickly. He jumped out of the dog's attack range but slammed into a tree.
The phone landed with the screen facing the ground, blocking the light, causing darkness to swallow Ty's vision. The dog was black so it blended with the shadows.
Ty listened over the sound of blood rushing in his ears and his abnormal heart beat for the dog. A rustle came from his left but when he moved to the right, a bark sounded and a sharp pain shot from his right leg. Ty gasped, too shocked to make any noise louder. The dog was still latched onto him so Ty kicked his leg, slamming the dog against another tree. The dog released itself from the damaged limb and slumped to the floor unconscious.
Ty fell onto his left knee and held his right shin, where the bite was located.
Damn, was the last thing he thought before the darkness cackled and swallowed him whole.
A/N Special thanks to DARKSOMEONE41! She helped me finish this chapter (and future chapters)
Now I've been getting into Stephen King, and I'm reading Cujo now, so yeah, this idea was born.
